I picture Facebook still being around in 20 years. It's simply too big to die out and will adapt to maintain relevance of current trends. (Barring it doesn't get destroyed for Libra competing with the giants)

Is this a good long term hold?

I deleted my facebook a long time ago, but in my line of business, a lot of local advertising/networking is done via facebook. It pisses me off to no end that I might have to get a facebook again just for business reasons.

Facebook advertising is an unironically retarded money hole that you’re probably too dumb to use productively. Stay away, your lawn care company doesn’t make enough to justify the sunken cost

this, they will pivot massively if they want to survive, maybe even be bought up by Apple or Google once they lose the millennial and zoomer market share and it's only bedridden deathsdoor boomers left.
Whatsapp might still be around as it is now and may be their cash cow, Instagram I'm not so sure - I imagine it will pivot more and more to video over time (if Facebook can do that effectively).

In fact it's ussually the companies on deaths door like Nissan under Ghosn, IBM under Gerstner, or Apple in the late 90's where they do radical pivots simply because they can't keep spending money to survive

Facebook massively over estimates the quantity of their user base, intentionally or not. This will be one of the biggest scandals of the next decade.

>> No.16489082

Facebook doesn't provide anything of value to anybody. Literally all they have is a giant user base, that's their product that they sell. If they don't have that they have literally nothing anybody would want.

lmao, it's not facebook advertising you absolute mongrel. Boomer clients only trust law firms if they have a facebook. They network through facebook. Clients talk about your firm and tag others through facebook, they want to see your face, know who you are, etc. before they hire attorneys, all via facebook. I'm not making this shit up. Boomers live and die by facebook now.

Out of FAANG I'm certain of only Google and Amazon, to a lesser degree Apple. Facebook is just a very big website with shrinking audience, they have no diversity and no products, they don't own any niches. Google is the Internet, Amazon is shopping and cloud.

Not once did I ever claim I was advertising with Facebook, nor did I ever claim that I needed to advertise with Facebook. The point I was making is that law firms and attorneys in some areas of law are expected to have facebooks for legitimacy sake, due to Boomers being Boomers.

English is clearly your second language or something because you're having a hard time comprehending what I'm writing. I'll just chalk it up to you being a fucking weird freak who responded to my initial post with unnecessary aggression and anger for no reason at all. They do have communities of like minded people though. Called Groups. And they have local thrift sale style sell and trade groups that are pretty useful, better than Craigslist or kijiji. The only problem is they have no accountability or punishment for scammers. Facebook also has a big problem with scammers stealing your friends identities and msg you with bullshit.

They do for the time being, that is true. It's still the largest social network and will be for quite some years. I just think the need for social networks will shrink and shift, the shift will be towards YouTube imo. It will also wat Netflix in the long run, it's already happening just a matter of time. The world and internet will concentrate further. Speaking of stocks I see both GOOG and AMZN doubling again in the next 5 years, at the expense of other FAANG stocks and also due to growing world pop

If urbit succeeds you will be able to steer your legacy social networks via social craft that run on api’s connected to your personal cloud computer. This will be done entirely in a p2p fashion and thereby starve these leviathans of the data that they feed off of. It’s hugely problematic for TPTB but Zucc already has billions so he might be able to pivot fb or just start up something else, or even start buying up digital real estate in some of these competing networks.
>>16489067
My understanding is that all tech does this in order to maximize revenue from ads. FB sort of got called out for it recently but it really is one of the biggest scams of the current paradigm. There are tons of de facto monopolies in tech that all overvalue their user base engagement levels and act like ads are God’s gift. The current monetary structure around selling ads also motivates them to build tech which addicts users and syphons as much data as possible from them.
>>16489082
It’s a plantation. All of us are trapped inside of these digital plantations that are doing nothing but vying for our attention and data. And if you say something that upsets them or their masters, the entire digital history of (you) can disappear without a trace. It’s almost 2020 yet we are still living like digital serfs.
