When the SHTF nobody is going to invest in crypto to watch their life savings depleted by 80%.

Mining on an asteroid would be hella expensive. Those costs would factor in to any gold obtained from the asteroid.

I've thought about this before.

Let's say you're using a robot on an asteroid to mine for things remotely. The speed of light makes it so every time you want to move the robot's arms, or make it move forward, or swing its pickaxe or whatever, you have to wait multiple minutes, say 5 minutes if its as far from earth as Venus, for the instruction to go through. Then you have to wait an equal amount of time for the visual transmission to reach you. So you have to wait 10 minutes to even see the robot move.

So mining, then, in SPACE, isn't really an option unless youre sending astronauts there which itself is unbelievably costly let alone the mining operation itself.

I think the solution would be to find a relatively tiny asteroid (one that couldn't cause major disaster if it hit us), push it towards Earth and then mine it after its hit the surface of Earth.

That no one has any use for other than to gamble as of yet.

Shiny rock unironically has the longest running history of just about anything in human civilization, maybe other than fire or marriage.

We are more likely to be able to create gold at will than we ever would be to get that shit from an asteroid.

The robot would be running it's own programs and feedback loops on its onboard computer presumably. Still, such technology is hundreds of years from being profitable. Not to mention, have we even prospected any nearby asteroids with substantial gold?
