So when you're analyzing the trading data on your losing trades, if we examine 2 things:
1) how much a trade ran past your stop
2) how much a trade went in your favor after you were stopped out
and you're finding that in like 50% or more of your losing trades with varying stop size, price goes to your stop or past it by no more than 3 cents and then proceeds to run a significant amount in the original anticipated direction, at what point do you start to become suspicious something fucked is going on?

I want to emphasize varying stop size for this experiment. If you clamp your stop at 5 cents, the trade runs 5-8 cents against you. If you expand your stop to 15 cents, the trade runs 15-18 cents against you. In other words no matter how you vary your stop, the condition for the trade to work seems to require that you are out of it. For the sake of additional information, of the 50% of losing trades where this behavior takes place, around 54% move a significant distance in favor of the original trade after I'm stopped out.

Simplifying this, it means on 100 losing trades, ~50 of them the price goes right to my stop, I stop out and then the trade proceeds to run in my favor by some decent amount. 25 of those losing trades involve moves that are significantly large so it's like "stop out at 15 cents, run in favor 90 cents from the original entry." I'm a breakeven trader at this point, trying to really push myself to get to a consistently profitable level, but with shit like this going on, I don't see how it's possible. I'm guessing the solution here is to just constrain your stops further right? If the market is doing funky shit to your stops, expanding them doesn't do you much good right? There's a point where you expand them so much, you may as well doing the opposite trade.

You're talking about a spread. If you are looking at Puts and you have a strike price at 25.00 and a strike price at 24.50, you sell the 25.00 and buy the 24.50 and because the 25.00 Put has a higher premium than the 24.50 put you potentially make the difference minus commissions as long as price expires at or above 25.00. Don't use stops. A lot of folks don't want to believe it, but the exchanges sell your order data to MMs and they do actually target stops like this.

12 years of trading and one thing I can consistently guarantee: stops will always fuck up a trade for me.

About the only time they aren't hunted is when I place them way the fuck out into "unmanaged risk" territory. What's the point of trying to mitigate losses at 1-2% when the stop hunting MM bots are fed all your info?

Same shit happens in crypto, just worse. Lesson here is that you don't use stops until there is PLENTY of profit buffer in the trade, or you're willing to risk significantly more than 1-2 percent. I just baby sit positions until I'm happy with my buffer. No other way around it.
