Seriously, if you use RSI, MACD, Fibonacci, or the 200/50 MA in their default settings and expect to get legitimate results over a large sample size of trades, it is in your best interest to at least watch this video.

I feel it's important to share at least the fundamental basics of potential energy and exhaustion in market cycles.

This isn't my whole trading edge, but it's a foundation for you to build one your own.

I can recommend trading books to anyone who wants them, I recommend starting with Macro to Micro by Mark Whistler.

I'll answer questions for a bit too if you like.

The typical way people use it is like trying to measure someone’s body fat percentage from only their weight and height.

You gotta add more variables for it to give an accurate reading, it’s the main component of a very important metric to the point where I’d say distributional width, (the size of a Bollinger band and all of its deviations) is more important than which deviation price is at.

What we did is we took Bollinger band squeezes, but instead of just squeezes we turned “totally squished” and “way overexpanded” into a relative metric from 0 to 1. Then we turned that into a colored heat map. So 0 is blue (compressed) and 1 Is red (overexpanded.)

Then we turned that into a heat map. So the bottom of the heat map is 14 and the top of the heatmap is 600, with all the periods in between filling up in between.
https://www.tradingview.com/x/e8vNDVeB/
Then you can figure out the exact period that is exhausted and use it to define channels and trends.

It’s a hell of a lot of work, but it actually works.

To simplify your approach, is it correct to say to only enter trades after a period of consolidation evidenced by narrow bollinger bands and then enter trades into the side of the breakout?

>> No.16358343

>>16358290
Well no, I actually find it more reliable to trade exhaustion since it’s more predictable. Nobody has any fucking idea what a driver on bath salts in a car is going to do when the light turns green, he could slowly accelerate, he could slam on the gas, it’s volatile and unpredictable.

But as soon as he takes his foot off the gas, everything lines up and returns to a state of compression and predictability since the deceleration has less variables.

>> No.16358392

Oh, yeah. Mmm, go play with WAVE PM on mt4 for free. My TradingView port is paid but you don’t have to use that. It was made by mark whistler and shows the distributional width as a relative metric. It’ll help a lot.

I'll add to this point that if you had some really accurate divergence indicator, or you had a really accurate method at calling tops and bottoms, or you knew how to follow trends really well and not get chopped up in ranges, you wouldn't necessarily share everything you knew. Even if discussing it wouldn't "give away" edge (because you put in a lot of effort to find that stuff out, and why should other lazy know about?).

But having general discussions about approaches probably won't hurt anyone, it'll just get people thinking.

I saw Dadshark at a grocery store in signapore yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen kava pouches in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “KAMU BAJINGAN KOTO. ANDA PERLUMEMBAYAR UNTUK MEREKA!” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any liquidity manipulation,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Since indications remain essentially the same through different timeframes, it can be used everywhere from the 1 minute to the weekly chart.

Let’s say your longest over expanded period on the 4h chart is 300. On the 1h chart, the indicator will show the longest over expanded period As 1200. On the daily chart it would show up as 50, and so on. Timeframe becomes pretty irrelevant when using “mass” readings. You can use it for scalping, trend trading, swing trading, and range trading.

Momentum is a suckers metric if it doesn’t have the context of mass, (distributional width for that period.)

It’s like trying to hit a Home run but you’ve chosen not to check if the pitcher just threw a baseball or a bowling ball. CCI uses the same pivots (effectively the 1.25 stdev) that cause the expansion or compression of a distribution, which lets it fit better into a system with that intent. RSI always has a better alternative for identifying momentum, regardless of the system you use.
