Probably because that demo car was built with stand-in regular glass.

That’s not entirely true.

Ceramics break glass due to how it impacts the glass, not the force behind it. Same as a diamond cutting glass doesn’t need to be chisel.

The demo tray you can see there is an inch gap that the glass is reset to. Once the ball is dropped and hits it, as the glass is not being held rigidly it’s allowed to flex and disperse the impact. The car window couldn’t which is why less force with the same object caused it to break.

They also probably threw the ball at it a bunch before hand. None of the designers and c-level execs probably have an autistic interest in ballistic transparent armor. If it’s not true ballistic transparent armor in the sense that it can reach a rating level, which it is most certainly not, then it probably cannot stand repeated impacts from even objects large, contact surface area objects. That transparent composite will probably not even stop a 9mm if it can’t handle a large ball being thrown at it a few times before the demonstration.
The steel exo is cool, but how many 9mm can it actually take? As a shtf it’s stil lthe best platform imo, even better if they made a non-electric version. Obviously, gas will be more scarce than electricity in shtf, but the risk of thermal runaway caused by puncture is not a problem with armored combustion cars.
>bullet pierces battery, thermal runaway
>bullet pierces self-sealing or even non self sealing gas tank, no fire unless the gas drips onto a hot part of the car, which would have to be heated from friction since gas tanks are usually in the back.
In terms of a firefight, electric armored vehicles will only become superior once there is a way to eliminate the risk of thermal runaways caused by punctures.

I’m actually pissed that they used the word bulletproof, I think they did, or at least they said the steel panels could stop a bullet. Ballistic ratings are seriously well studied and when an armored vehicle is given a rating that score is based on seriously strong rational. Just because the exo can withstand a mallet and maybe one 9mm and that the transparent wannabe armor can maybe withstand impact from a blunt object, doesn’t mean the cybertruck is ready for an engagement oem.
I want a cybertruck, but I’ll be outfitting it with tested materials and have multiple copies tested to receive a ballistic rating. Sadly the materials are so heavy today but there is a lot of innovation in the space. I’m curious to see how thicker layers of this steel used to create part of the bullet resistant cabin space would fare in testing, I do think they are onto something, but the advertising is misleading, and dangerously so.

But if a few people believe that they'll get laid by owning one, then you have your profit right there. Why actually risk money or wellbeing by making it work? That's not the point. In fact, I'd say Musk does put himself on the line by risking looking like an idiot, which he did at the demo.
Sadly, he immediately blamed his head of design (albeit jokingly) and pretended to be confused as to why it happened. A good leader would take responsibility and explain the problem to investors. If he created the thing, but is totally confused as to how the error could have possibly happened, then he's gaslighting. Many knives are being dedicated to backs within the Tesla ranks, nobody is going to want to be Trump-style sacrificed over bullshit like this. >They also probably threw the ball at it a bunch before hand.
I'm pretty certain they did not.
That was a very half-hearted lob and the glass just shattered while that test glass withstood far greater punishment.

It was very obviously not the right kind of glass in that demo truck.

I really don’t see it as as big a deal as the media and everyone is making it out to be, but they were stupid in throwing the ball without first figuring out how many throws the window could take without shattering. Transparent armor is supposed to shatter without full penetration. This wasn’t even supposed to be transparent armor, but musk’s hubris probably made them do this risky test without substantial behind the scenes testing of the specific conditions of the demo.
I see musk as a brainlet autist, where his tism helps him get ahead of the pack but his brainletness and dunning kruger mind lead him through fuck up after fuck up.
The cybertruck will still be a success, and I say this as someone who will not buy an electric car until it can be proved that penetration of the battery will no longer almost always cause a thermal runaway event.
The design is more edgy than that of the Model S, and we have seen how the S has taken off and influenced others. Also, the model S does not look like a panamera, the panamera is so distinct, I love it, but the original S looked nothing like the first gen panamera imo, or at least not enough to be considered a copy like the explorer is a copy of the range rover.
The cybertruck wards off any claims of design copying, and is also absolutely a threat to traditional pickups. They need to add a few more features standard in pickups, and I’d buy one if it was gas powered or at least mostly thermal runaway proof.

really wouldn't unbreakable glass just be more dangerous in a crash if your heads slamming into it, what is the point of it? to stop niggers stealing your change?

>> No.16351447

there's airbags to prevent that regardless of glass.
At least I assume the tesla has "curtain" airbags.

if your head smashes into non-unbreakable glass in a crash you're fucked anyway, especially if it's with enough force to break it. airbags are there to prevent this
