Inherently, veganism is actually far worse for the environment than animal farming. Intensive agriculture, that completely changes the landscape and needs to eradicate pests (native animals), to feed humans sub-optimal foods (so they end up needing to eat a dis-ordinate amount of the food compared to efficient combination of eggs/dairy/meat). Its fairly stupid to claim that mountains that have been used for thousands of years for shepherding, should now be completely changed to quinoa farms so that we can get enough food for the world. Or more likely, jungles and rainforests in brazil.
The reason veganism is so good for the environment is because vegans are so malnourished, most of them cant have kids, even if they wanted to. Which is in my opinion, a shame, if they are so dedicated to the cause, they should work on improving living conditions and practices for farmed animals and having as many kids as possible. Look at the catholic church, suppose reproduction was considered "naturally evil" (instead of good), christianity would have died within 2 generations. The same exact concept applies to environmentalism.
