the Russell 1000 index tracks the top 1000 US publicly traded stocks, weighted by market cap.
It's dividend yield is on the order of 1.75%, so you would get $1750 yearly, before taxes.
That is the average yield over the whole index. There are stocks in the index that pay much more, and there are stocks in the index that pay no dividends.

>I still don't understand why these assholes thought it was free money...
They're retarded or something.

>There's always fucking risk, you should have to take a fucking test on risk analysis to fucking trade options and derivatives.
Some people are so sure they're right, they only look at one side of the trade and never think the person on the other side of the trade might be right.

>Like seriously I've been trading options for over 2 years now, and iit probably took me like 18 months to figure out why some one would want a debit spread.
Sometimes you want less risk and you can buy stuff that limits your risk.

>But these assholes are taking the credit from their spreads to sell more spreads to get more credit to sell more, and if some one executes and calls their options you sold in, you see how fast you're left holding the bag.
Uhh basically people used borrowed money to get further behind.

>I mean I wouldn't want 100,000 shares of anything tied up when the market is running the way it is, i want some liquidity and the ability to swim around.
Some people always expect more opportunities and want to take advantage of them. Sometimes that means closing doors to open new ones.

>> No.16156096

>>16156026
there are different kind of returns.
If a stock pays a 10% dividend yield, but the price is flat, you get !0%-cap gain tax every year.
If a stock appreciates by 10% every year (but pays no dividend), you don't have to pay taxes until you sell. So you don't have to take the small hit to your compounding every year, and you perform better in the long run.

If you buy the Russell 1000 (or another index), you have a good shot of achieving 10% annual returns pre-tax over the long term. But it won't all be in dividends.

It is much more important to consider dividend growth over dividend yield. There are stocks that you can buy right now that will pay you 10% yearly... for the next couple quarters, until they cut the dividend. There are also stocks out there RIGHT NOW that either pay a small dividend or no dividend, that will be paying a 20% yield vs their current cost in 10 years. The important thing is to NOT consider the instantaneous, right-now dividend yield too much, because the long term returns are dependent on many other things.

>> No.16156148

Thanks everyone for your help.

So I just talked with a friend that works for Citi and we casually got on the topic of US elections (because of the voting that happened today). According to him his entire department along with some contacts he has at other banks, they're going to short the entire US market in 2020 if a radical like Warren gets elected.
You will see a massive downturn in the markets a few days before the election depending on data, if Trump gets ousted we will see another late 2018 in 2020 and in 2021 it's just flat-out crazy.

They have already started shorting certain sectors of the market and from his knowledge, some progressive billionaires are leading the charge at one or two US banks because their entire operations are under threat from Warren (Bernie is not even remotely a threat so I guess he's a pawn to rally young progressives to the dems like we saw in 2016).
Greatest fucking short this world has ever seen? Imagine if Rome fell in just a year and you could short it. I don't know about you but in September/October next year I'm going to short like a fucking madman

I feel like Warren would just try and pass a new tax, something like, "anyone who made any money shorting the market in the last couple years has to pay 100% taxes on it" or something.
Warren is creative and ambitious with taxes. She wants to try new things when it comes to taxing anyone evil enough to try and make a profit from doing anything. Whatever you want to do to try and get around her and keep your wealth, she will try and find a way to tax it away.
Basically I'm concerned that there is no "easy" free money way out of this one if Warren gets elected. The only hope is that Congress is still bought and paid for by the banks. Otherwise she could be crashing this market for real. The kind of crash you can't hedge, where the government comes and takes your money.

Closed out a big position in profit yet I get the vibe robinhood is showing inaccurate numbers. I remember reading that the premium is given over time rather than immidiately deposited. Sold puts at about 0.13. Closed them at 0.02 and somehow cant shake the feeling that they may have a bug screwing me over. I mean there's already been 2 BIG bugs where people made trades they shouldn't be able to. Wouldn't be surprisong if they had a bug that screwed you out of premium.

Reading between the lines, it actually sounds very much like China is done with talks and are sticking with their demands. If they aren't met this deal is toast.

Lots of potential buys. DF hits the prophesied $0.95 buy zone. SNSS is down to $0.50. What do you think about SNSS today? It seems like it has room to double over the coming weeks, and SNSS Anon has had such rotten luck with his other stocks he's postex about here, simple probability tells us he's due for a big win. On the other hand, Baggie's interest is definitely a possible bear signal. Still. it might be worth buying 500 or 1,000 shares.

What does everyone think about LCI earnings. I checked this morning and it looked like it was rising in anticipation. I bet reported earnings will be in line with expectations. Will there be any sell off afterwards? Or will shorts get further BTFO and see a double-digit percentage surge?
