It fucking amazes me that there are so many people out there who seriously believe there's billions of dollars flowing into Jeff Bezos' bank account every week. There's such naivety over what wealth consists of when it comes to these CEOs.

there's so much wrong with this post i dont know where to begin. for one thing, there were no "dollars" in columbus' time, so i have to assume we're using some kind of conversion but considering how much value the dollar has lost over the years, $5k per day back then would be like $500k per day adjusted for inflation so, yes - you would be a goddamn billionaire

>> No.16067094

You would actually have $928b, giving you a network of twice the richest person to ever exist (mansa musa, converted to usd and adjusted for inflation), but I agree with the sentiment.

These retarded liberals are retarded. People like Jeff Bezos is why America is the greatest country in the world and all these dumb niggers do is complain about his networth but REFUSE or unirionically maybe just too stupid to see how much he contributes to society unlike the fucking monkeys that tweet retarded shit like this. As a society where large portions of the population range from 80-100 iq, its will never be possible to have meaningful discussions on these issues (asset worth vs income, etc).
The internet was never supposed to be "for everyone", they ran broadband to the inner cities to drown out the 120+ iq set.

it seems to me as though the point is that returns on capital grossly exceed returns on labor, despite all capital being a byproduct of said labor.

1925 dollar pegged at $20.75/ounce.
median salary ~$3000 (pic related)
3000/20 = 150 ounces ($186,000 in 2016) ($225,000 today ($1500/ounce))

2016 dollar between $1130 and $1350 / ounce.
median salary $31,099 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_income_in_the_United_States))
31000/1240 = 25 ounces ($518.75 in 1925)

>when the 2016 median wage is the 1st percentile 1925 wage
>dude just wageslave for 50 years lmao

it does not matter whether your society can harvest the energy output of galaxies or has just invented the steam engine; you cannot accumulate wealth when you define value relative to increases in the collective economic output.

The point is this >16067048 the myth of making it through "hard work" is just that- a myth. You guys are reading into it too much, just focus on the math and the magnitude of ~$400b, whether it's liquid capital or not is secondary to the point he is trying to make. I don't know what a bunch of broke loser NEETs who spend their time on a kazakhstani glass blowing forum would argue against this.

Bezos' wealth is pretty simple. He owns about 60 million shares of the company he founded. Each share is worth $1770 USD because that's what the market (consisting of funds and ordinary people like you and me) is currently willing to pay for each share.

60m x 1770 = $106 billion.

If he gets richer, it's only because he's helped Amazon to perform better, which in turn causes people to pay more for Amazon stock, which in turn makes his total net worth technically larger. And on the flip side, if Amazon collapsed and the market decided the Amazon stock value should be $0, that $106 billion would go to zero as well.

In practice too, he couldn't even sell all the stock he owns at that price. The huge sell pressure it would cause, combined with the market panic of the founder selling all his stock, would cause a mass sell-off meaning that he'd be lucky to sell all 60m shares for even a fraction of $1770 each. It's a theoretical net worth, the majority of which he can't really do anything with without shrinking it dramatically.

But of course, the stupid theory will continue that Bezos and other super-rich are siphoning money from the poor and storing it in a big Scrooge McDuck money vault.
