I'm wagecucking at a job that pays about 35k (comes out to like 40-45k with mandatory OT). I'm a recent college grad (history degree no memes pls) and am currently looking for a better job. I have about 6k in assets (stocks, CD, 401k, and a little silver). I also have about 43k in debt. I've been seeing this article floating around that you really need to save about 100k to start investing for real.

I want to know if I should focus on saving up that much and paying down the debt fast for next the few years, or just go ahead and keeping investing what I can for now and gradually paying off the debt.

This is bad advice because the retirement accounts do nothing for you until you're retired. Sure play it safe, who cares? But you could be putting that money into even spy and getting a decent return that is liquid if some other opportunity comes up. Or learn to trade in the mean time while growing your portfolio in a still somewhat safe way. Then you buy the investment property when you can and start rolling it in.

You can trade within your retirement account. By that I mean, you can shift from one fund to another. I guess if you had excellent risk management at cutting/identifying losing calls right away, you'd basically become a millionaire pretty quick. I haven't done the calculation, but im pretty sure holding to expiry always is negative ev by kelly critereon since you lose all premium on a worthless expiry.

Also of interest, pretty much all options atm are overpriced for what they should be, usually by just about a few dollars. Possible heuristic for the superiority of writing atm calls?

Yes, iv is not always right. It has about ~0.6 correlation with future vol but ~0.8 correlation with past realized vol. Mostly because big option writers use past iv to make their forecast and if option volume is not unusual it stays this way.
