Make no mistake, the internet is a hive mind. If you think of something, it has already been thought of a million times over for you. Your thoughts are not "your thoughts"

They can predict your thoughts, because they can look at people who have similar video histories to you, and then look at the videos they've looked at in the past hour.

People with similar watch histories, tend to have similar thoughts.

Also, you don't notice the 100x they recommended something you didn't think of, versus the 1x they were right.

I mean if you watched dozens of dragon dildo videos on pornhub, you’ll be thinking of dragon dildoes all day. at the same time, you’ll get ads for dragon dildoes.

>> No.15932677

Y9u don't know it but you talk to yourself quite often. One of the mics on your half dozen devices picks it up and bam! Delivers you an ad or a recommended video. Im the guy assigned to monitor you, btw.

Oh shit I never thought of it that way. I know on a cognitive level they track what people like you are also interested in, it never occured to me that could mean things like maybe everybody can hear the guy in the podcast eating chips and get hungry for chips thus making them advertise chips when your watching the video even though you think thats just a thought you had just now. That makes lots of sense.

The value of data surpassed the value of oil. Everyone are now little oil pumpjacks. They can just keep pumping your data until you're no longer providing any (when you die).

But you still use a cell phone, and you still use the internet, and you still use email, and you probably still watch shows through any number of streaming platforms, and if you don't, you still are pirating it off a magnet host.

All of those collect data on you. The ads are just how they push data to you, and they only make money if you consume the content of the ad (purchase the product). The source of where advertising companies are profiting isn't the ad or pushing the ad to you. It's harvesting your data and selling it to anyone and everyone: governments, political action committees, political campaigns, the military, the police, data analytics firms, other advertisers in bulk collections, banks, etc.

The real spooky thing to me is the idea that advertising has an effect even if you think like I do that it's usually trash and makes you like the product less. Regardless what you believe ads rely on your subconscious to file away that stupid jingle, slogan, etc until you need something, and the product or brand will come to mind if you see it enough. It's an idea originally developed to make people believe propaganda, and it works.

3 days ago I was violently ill in bed and made no searches all day. I've suspected for a while it was a marijuana induced condition (CHS) so I googled "cann" and "cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome" instantly came up. Spooked the shit out of me and made me wonder if they were recording my vomiting sounds all day and plugged it into some sort of predictive software

>> No.15933955

>>15931835
You didn't just "think" of it. You either watched content that is related either by place, subject matter or event. You think it's telepathy because you cannot remember what you searched. These ads can search back years of data that you have typed in and compiles everything that is similar. That search you made for an obscure indian food cooking video 3 years ago on your google account? They still remember.

Bad advertizing is the stuff that makes you think "fuck these spammy fuckers and their gay ads, am not buying from them ever"
Good advertizing is the stuff that makes you think "I dont watch tv, but I should buy one because I can always stream shit on it and watching my big tiddy animu will be comfy"
Genius advertizing is when you buy something thinking that it was your idea, that you have the money and the need, when in reality yesterday you didnt think about TVs at all and today you really want one.
They have think tanks getting paid millions of dollars for a single ad that you will only see for a couplw of seconds while scrolling faceberg, and believe me, they get their money's worth.

t. work in marketing for teams that get paid millions of dollars per ad. The shit I saw made me seriously consider getting off the grid.

all your search and browsing habits are collected and analyzed. then they make recommendations based on what polled well with people similar to you. if you use chrome or an android phone you're already sending them all your shit. If not cookies take care of the rest. modern consumer and media culture is designed to shepherd people into all liking the same thing. Marketing strategies have become very advanced and even drive life for some people. They are very good at making you spend money on useless shit you don't need. Target even guessed that a teen girl was pregnant and sent maternity offers in mailers to the house, outing the kid to her parents. welcome to the future.
