Is it a good idea to raise a family from a pure financial standpoint? Sure they are expensive. But what if the family motivates you to excel even further?

I wonder how many are from the same father.

One of the supposed reasons people had a lot of kids in older times is so that they can take care of you when you're old.

Not an issue any longer. But there must be other financial benefits than security on old age.

From a purely financial standpoint, it costs roughly 200k to raise a child from infant to 18. You have an obligation to leave an inheritance for your child (you don't need to inform them of this unless you want)
A child/family won't motivate you to excel. You either were born ambitious or you weren't.
