I'm generally anti-income tax but inheritance tax should seize everything over 100K inflation and cost of living adjusted. It would encourage children of self-made people to gain real merit themselves while also encouraging philanthropy because the parents aren't just going to want to give their money to the state after they dies.

And again, it doesn't matter what one's parents do. If society is to reward merit than one cannot be permitted to live by the merit of another outside of obvious circumstances like minors, the disabled and the economically disadvantaged. And when I mean economically disadvantaged I mean the guy running a fruit stand in rural sub Saharan Africa. It doesn't matter if you're the best dame businessmen in the world if that's you you're never making it past the fruit stand because the market doesn't exist. And if there's a famine through no fault of your own you do deserve aid from others.

And the reason you deserve aid is two-fold. First I'd a make a moral argument that those who have have a responsibility to help those who are disadvantaged and or suffering through no fault of their own. The second reason is that merited people working to make the world better makes it better for everyone. The second reason is of material self-interest and self-gain. If the some of the most merited people are stuck dying of famine because their society is shit we all lose out on their potential contribution.

Kinda. Seizing unspent inheritance is still important. As for UBI I'm for it once automation actually takes off but not before. I disagree with this one. You don't harm anybody if you just live off of inherited money. It's the parents property and they have every right to leave it to their sons if they wish so. There's no rational argument against it. It's just jealousy or vague moral platitudes about "fairness".

And if it bothers you that much just think that if the sons are idiots they will eventually lose it all anyways. It happens all the time. And if the sons maintain or increase the wealth they inherited that means that they would have made it anyways (or made a good living) thanks to how their wealthy parents raised them. Achieving wealth is mostly about education, discipline and know-how, the initial amount you start with does have little to do with it.
