It's good to know the basics, but the key to success in technical analysis is to find your own edge. You can't just apply patterns by rote. You need to be able to think critically for yourself, and a lot of times you have to zig when others zag.

>>15720494
I am really fond of Costco. I do the majority of my grocery and household products shopping at Costco. I have an executive membership. Yet despite that, I own zero shares of their stock. I don't have any deep insight into the stock other than a couple points. First, that it's trading at a relatively high price to earnings multiple. Peter Lynch said in One Up on Wall Steeet that 15x P/E is the perfect ratio, and that stocks trading above that line are certain to fall back to 15. Second, it just doesn't seem like a company with such high prospects for appreciation in its stock price compared to, say, Tailored Brands. That's not based on any serious analysis on my part. Now, if you are interested in a contrary (and probably more valuable) opinion, I would go straight to the source and pick up a copy of One Up on Wall Street. As I recall, Peter Lynch does treat Costco/Price Club in brief, and has some VERY positive things to say about the stock.

KNG
You could do a similar thing with PBP/QYLD/QQQX + SPY/QQQ blends and rebalancing, but it wouldn't be the same because
1. The underlying div is lower, so you have to write more aggressively to hit the same yield

KNG increases the yield that you get from NOBL while sacrificing about 20% of the growth prospect because of the options writing.
I don't actually hold 100% KNG, but if I had to chose something to be a one-instrument portfolio it's an easy choice. Not even close.

>>15721036
You could match 30% QYLD with 70% QQQ;; or 25% PBP with 75% SPY

Rebalance yearly only if you go 5% off target, otherwise just keep re-investing divs to hit the targets (the buy-write ETF will be more stable, so you use its yield to buy more of the equity index when the equity index is down, and buy more of the buy-write when the index is up, comparatively)

If you really want to be active, you can make a blend of underlying securities with an auxiliary buy-write yield strategy yourself. You can get as creative as you want with the writes. I tend to be more passive now that I'm older. I mostly just buy nice things and hold them. I had more energy to get creative with investments when I was younger, and had less money to throw around. haha ;)

PBP, QYLD, HSPX are in, as are a number of interesting funds like SPLV.

Oh, SPYX is in there, which is spy without fossil fuels. KNGLX, the KNG mutual fund is also in there, but it looos like it’s got double the fees of KNG.

SO... now that Altria has their guy in Juul, and it’s time to regulate the shit out of them... seems like a year from now they’ll be controlling the whole industry.

I’m actually less angry with Cramer. Now I want them to absolutely destroy the share price of MO. I want MO at 30 so I can buy the fuck out of it. Only problem is chase for yield with bond yields so low probably won’t allow it.

Yeah an expense ratio of 1.2% isn't something I'd be interested in.

Generating cash flow with things that aren't bonds is the name of the game right now. QYLD or HSPX is fine if that's what you have access to. They add a bit of stability to an account. Total long term return of a SPY+HSPX should follow something like SPLV more than SPY because of the constant payouts.
Differences come down to expenses and taxes.

Also, and this is a PSA to everyone in these threads, please don't be so concerned with Altria short term price movement. As long as they maintain the dividend and pay down their debt, it's all good. Maybe? Altria does have the CRON investment. And on technicals it looks okay for some upward movement in the short term due to the test of support earlier this morning and climb back up in to end of day, still sub 30 RSI on daily and weekly. These are five year lows here so I wouldn't be too greedy about extreme cheapies at this point. These are already pretty cheap shares for a company with Altria's financials and history, drop has been mostly on speculation of declining revenue + controversy headwind.

Both Warren and Sanders are HATED by Wallstreet and investors in general. Biden is obviously the safe card for them but my guess is that the market would stay pretty neutral or even negative for a long time with Biden, he hasn't proposed anything except some senile shit that would help the economy. Not to mention the complete dump if Trump gets impeached and the ACTUAL uncertainty for months after the impeachment of Trump.

No matter what you think of Trump, Trump probably made sure we avoided a down turn in the market thanks to him cutting taxes and shit to bolster spendings/loans. Without that we would probably already be in a recession.

The fact is this trump at first was best for the market and carved a definite edge for new highs in the long term, but he got greedy and slimy and now is desperate. People who voted for him hate him, his farmer constituency is tanking and he knows impeachment talks are in process and could lead to his downfall.
A dem in office would be good for investors to cool off from this hell we’ve been in and the trade war being abandoned would bring back the manufacturing numbers along with everything else that was lost when it was first started

>If you believe the polls on Trump then that’s fake news as well(see Hillary election)
How is it fake news? Did the pollsters change opinions because Trump got into office? Did they go from anti-Trumpters to pro-Trumpsters? Doesn't that mean Trump got more popular? Kek'd. I don't think you realize that US is widely divided in general and republican voters doesn't give two shits about the trade war and what democrats cry about on a daily basis.
Look at his rallies for example, nobody comes close to gathering the same amount of people Trump does just to hear him scream about shit he has screamed about for years.

There's no FACTUAL evidence that any presidency affects the market as much as you think it does. Valuations, corporate profits, business cycles, monetary policy is what affects the stock market. Trump did affect the stock market though thanks to the massive tax cuts which lead to corporate profits increasing, this is why investors gives him credit for it. Under Obama however, you saw him restricting and taxing which you could argue lead to a slowdown in the market after the 2008 crisis rally, so without Trump cutting taxes and regulations what do you think would happen? The slowdown would continue, obviously.
Not to mention that ~50% of the S&P is owned by non-americans, so what you're saying with your picture is basically "democrats attracts more global investors because the open trade market". This is not something Trump is aiming at achieving which you should know by now, so that's not really an argument here... it would be if Trump was also pro-open trade though.

I think you're just basing your opinion on disliking Trump, personally.

Really need to start just taking profits when its a good chunk. Also, on the topic that there's no factual evidence at all that political parties affects the stock market a lot.

>"So what explains the better economic performance under Democratic presidents? Blinder and Watson identified two factors—oil shocks and increases in what’s called Total Factor Productivity—as the main culprits. Nixon, Ford, and George W. Bush were unlucky to have their presidencies coincide with large increases in oil prices, while Democratic presidents, with the exception of Carter, served during a time of flat or falling energy prices, a dynamic that can provide big boosts to the domestic economy."
>"As for Total Factor Productivity, this is a measure that economists use to gauge the economic effects of things like improvements in technology, education, and business processes. Democratic presidents were apparently lucky enough to preside over the economy during periods where advances in technology had a huge effect on the economy. The best example of this dynamic is the rise of the Internet during the Clinton administration, when many processes were made more efficient and the economy more productive by the development of that technology."

So there's a pretty solid reason(s) for it. I'm not even american so I don't really care, but thinking democrats are good for the market when they restrict and tax is just crazy kek'd, which is why I think you're basing everything you say on your hate for Trump.

you don;'t pay taxes unless you sell

you pay taxes on dividends, because that is income. but you don't realize capital gains unless you sell.
that's the reason that share buybacks (companies use money to buy their own shares instead of giving the money to shareholders in the form of dividends) is tax advantaged or tax-avoidance depending on your opinion.

my opinion, on this issue only, despite my net worth, I'd agree with liz warren and say: fuck buybacks, if a company wants to return cash to shareholders, do so in a reasonable (and taxable) way, in the form of dividends.
But that's just my opinion.

I like that it gives another option to companies when their stock is way undervalued.

It does kind of suck that it is what companies did with their tax buybacks, but if every way of returning value to the investor is disadvantaged because of taxes, then companies may just sit on large cash piles, which i see as de-stimulating the economy, and possibly leading to even bigger bonuses.

no, options are entirely different from equities
options are their own ballgame, and the price of a stock will still, at the end of the day (or year, etc.) be determined by REAL things
shorts might be considered unethical by brainlets, but they're fine too

the only thing immoral in the market is lying. as long as you're truthful about what it actually is you're buying or selling, it's fine. and you don't have to explain every last truth about the instrument [that you're buying or selling]. you only have to be truthful about the basic description of it, what [it] is.

dividends aren't tax-disadvantaged. dividends are fair. if a company sits on cash (and loses money to inflation), instead of returning the cash to their shareholders in the form of dividends, their share price will go down.
