They know that's an option, and have modified laws, in order to make it impractical.

1) Are you NEVER going to make any money for the rest of your life? You know they can garnish pretty much anything, right? And alimony or child support payments never expire. They even continue after bankruptcy.

2) If you keep the money in a bank account, they can seize that. Can you pay your rent with cash? Can you pay all your expenses with cash?

3) They don't always use it, but they can send you to prison.

Actually, your best plan would be

1) Reconcile (or somehow make the marriage last another year).
2) Take the primary caregiving role with your son, and prevent your wife from taking any caregiving role
3) Get a job, and be the primary income
4) (optional) move to a different state
5) Break up the marriage, and make sure that you keep the child during the divorce
6) (optional) If possible, figure out how to establish (in some way that would satisfy a court) that she's abusive toward the child. Video evidence. Audio evidence.
7) (optional) If possibly, figure out how to get her convicted (or at least arrested) of some drug-related offense. Document the drug-related offense.
8) Show the court that you're the primary income, you take care of the child, you provide a stable environment for the child, she doesn't provide a stable environment, and ask for custody. Odds are, she'll pay you child support.

Remember, faking evidence is super-illegal. It's best to "slant" actual evidence in your favor, by selectively gathering evidence. For example, if she spanks/hits the child, make sure to repeatedly document it. But I wouldn't fake an audio recording, or anything.

1) Put drugs in her food
2) After she eats it, dispose of leftover food
3) Get into a fight with her
4) Report her for domestic violence or something, and let the police see the crazy drugged-up lady that's screaming at you. (they're cops, they can look at her, and tell if she's tweaking on meth)

Bonus points if you can get her to hit you, and you greet the police with a bloody head.

If you keep the marriage going for a year longer, you have to pay a year less of child support, and 6 months more of alimony, when the divorce actually happens. I guess you could just try to keep the marriage going for another 5-10 years. Or better yet, actually reconcile.
