Not in the US, Aus but we still have retarded tuition fees. While at uni there was absolutely zero free time to go and pick up a side job. Working on any degree full time (which is how most of these people somehow build up stupidly high debts) means late nights and high stress. So many pointless compulsory units e.g. descrimination and gender studies.
The system is rigged. Yes these people are stupid for putting themselves in these situations but a lot of them get talked into it by career advisors etc at a young age with paperwork shoved into their faces to sign. University has become a debt racket and governments make a hefty profit from it. Nothing is about looking forward to the future anymore and having a skilled workforce. "The industry" has one method of identifying demand: price generation. This is basic economics, it's the exact same thing as the government working "with the industry" to decide what kind of crops to grow. Itll probably be like 2008 again.
Everyone invested in financial instruments backed by student loans will face a credit crunch when the returns dry up. Then they'll desperately try to sell assets in order to stay solvent.
This will cause a short term crash in prices as everyone scrambles for dollars. But the fed will fire up the printing presses again in order to bail all the big boys out. This means the long term effects will be inflation.

I'm not sure how many more times they can successfully do that, tho. A huge number of gen-xers, millennials, and now zoomers are way too indebted to ever invest in securities or even buy a house. Sooner or later, as the wealth is increasingly concentrated in the 1%, they'll have to jump rails and move away from our current economic system.

If the dems can successfully ban guns, or otherwise neuter the citizenry then maybe all student loan holders become serfs?

Think about how many recruiters they send to schools and how hard they work to keep enrollment growing forever, which of course it can't. The whole point of student loans is to keep the wagies in their cagies. It is very easy in this day and age to be NEET (though I think it's miserable) or expat, and if people start doing these things in appreciable numbers the American economy would crumble. So they lock you into crippling debt at a young age then bombard you with messages in media that it's impossible to make anything of yourself or learn something new after your mid-twenties.

The point being that whatever wagepath you chose while you were getting drunk five nights a week is the path you're stuck with because the debt never goes away and you are made very afraid of what would happen if you were to try go it alone without your wagemasters.

I don't think NEETdom is any better btw.

We never had this issue because people couldn't get loans for meme degrees.

If someone came to you for a loan to open a McDonalds you would consider it since you know they make money right?

If someone came to you for a loan to make an ice cream flavored as shit would you give them may money? No because you know you'd be unlikely to get your money back.

The USA started to pass laws saying lenders HAD to lend money to everyone (education for all) but they can't force lenders to lend money when they know they have. 90% chance to lose it so what did they do?

The IRS said they will pay the loans if they default, now the IRS has to collect the money and what happens if you don't pay? Well they made sure they can always collect it till death because at the end of the day they know most of these loans will default.

Moral of the story? The government tries to secure college for everyone and ends up commiting everyone to a life of debt and lowers the wages of college degrees because of there being a larger supply of graduates causing businesses to hire over seas.

It's really quite comical, by design government intervention always fails because it tries to force an opposite, an unnatural.. you can't bend reality, you can't make a deformed dog breed, itl create a race of retards.

It is popular for a lot of young Americans to go work abroad for the following factors.

1) Student loan payments are zero when making money outside of America

2) Competition with Pajeet, Chang, and Manuel has pushed a lot of young Americans to break into the job market elsewhere. This is simply because companies are not willing to invest in the entry level youth. There has been a breakdown in employee and employer loyalty in America.

There is no reason to live and work in the USA unless you are fleeing unlivable conditions. It's a raw deal. I can't stress this enough, before making money or doing anything with your life establishing at least residency elsewhere is the top priority.

You are one election away from your money being seized and given to the poors. You think the elites are going to sate the frenzied masses with their own money? No. They will take from the upper-middle class, they will take almost all of it. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

As far as I'm concerned it's better to have a net worth of $0 and live abroad or as a roaming expat than be a millionaire living in America.

Now you know part of the problem.

You have a mountain of school debt, a gender studies degree (personally, I got STEM, but I know some smart people that got History degrees and working at Walmart.), and job prospects over $30,000 a year for most parts of America are unobtainable.
What do you do? Do you work?
That'd be a waste of time because you'll get 15 - 25% taken in taxes and up to 15% taken for student loan repayments. Not including retirement or social security contributions. Food and housing on top of that.

Or, you can NEET it up. Go on food stamps and welfare. You pay nothing and you still have your time.

There has to be a way to fix this that isn't full fucking socialism.

I agree, but bankruptcy is the balance for that, which is not extended to student loans.

Where do those student loan interest payments go to? They don't go to reinvest into the economy. They don't even go back to the government. In the event of forgiveness, the government foots the bill to private holders. In the event of repayment, private holders get all of the profits and interest.
It's a no lose situation for private companies that doesn't benefit the government at all. We've essentially privatized the profit and publicized the risk.

If student loans are to keep existing, then they need to be made purely private with no government backing, or purely public.

It's even hard for people to do charity with them, like others do with medical debt.
Because stuff like medical debt gets sold and passed around, student loans don't. It's literally guaranteed income.
You would end up paying close to full price for all of that student loan debt in order to forgive it as charity.

Basically, there's no way to profit, there's no way to realistically help on a personal level.

And the inflation that printing money causes occurs in real time, not the future.

Increasing the money supply doesn't cause any more inflation when the government does it than when the private sector does it. When I was in grad school, the school did a cafeteria renovation and put all kinds of futuristic vending machines and bought hipster art pieces for obscene amounts, and then they furloughed the teachers for to lack of funds. All departments spend a ton on wasteful shit at the end of the year because the budget for the following year is cut if there are funds leftover. We literally threw away all the perfectly good printers and bought new ones just because we had to spend money. We weren't allowed to take them either. They had to be thrown in the dumpster.

Meanwhile the class I excelled in and looked forward to go to everyday was my morning shop class that taught me to weld, build house circuits, solder pipe, frame a house wall etc. I start college taking random classes that look fun because I don't have a single clue what I want to do with my life (took welding and small engines classes freshman year lol). A few years later I'm retaking physics for the third time and am forced to drop out because they upped the requirements for my major (Construction Management, starting a new major would take another 3 years after the 6 I already put in). Now I've been NEET for 2 years because I'm not I'm a hurry to start paying my 50k loan for my non-existent degree. I went to one of the better state schools in my state. >long term harm those 7 years of missed opportunities result in.

But student loan debt is non-dischargeable,
>Federal law (USA)allows up to 25% of disposable income to be garnished...forever?

In terms of personal finance, if Joe Schmo has a $50,000 medical bill at 6% interest rate that is dischargeable and a $50,000 student loan at 3% that is non-dischargeable, both with 10 year terms, how should he prioritize paying off the loans?
Let's say he has enough income that he can comfortably pay 150% of the combined monthly required payment.

What % of his extra payment should go to the dischargeable at 6% vs the non-dischargeable at 3%???

College is a meme. You can learn anything that you've ever wanted to learn on the internet. The only people who should be in college are doctors and lawyers.
