The risk is basically exactly what you're assuming it is. If it spikes through the roof and stays there, you'll be limiting your upside. If it spikes up and immediately comes back down again, you'll have lowered your exposure and freed up some cash. Diversification is good, you're right to be concerned about holding too much of one name.

Eh...it's pretty hard to do consistently. Sometimes a stock will come along that makes it really easy for you. I've picked up on one or two stocks that have netted me 5k+ in a pretty short time by just buying and setting a sell order, then when that fills putting in a buy order etc. But it always dries up eventually and you may get burned and left on the side of the road. You just have to watch screeners for those back and forth moving stocks, which are typically manipulated penny stocks. SIML was a good example of this for a while, now when the fundamentals are better than ever it's completely tanked which is I'm guessing because nobody wants to P&D a stock that might be going somewhere, they'd rather just hold.

10% is absolutely doable, but you'd be no lifing it like you said. That's just a lot of reading and evaluating and searching for answers. Are you looking at blue chips or growth opportunities? There are some absolutely killer growth opportunities right now. One that comes to mind is AMRS, I'd recommend doing some research into the tech that they're using and looking at their most recent webcast (yesterday's) and just thinking about the applications that tech could be used for. Understand why the stock price is depressed right now too. Spend a couple hours looking at AMRS and I'm sure you'll be on board. 10k with them today is most likely 50k in the next couple (maybe 4) years.

I cannot believe you retards didn't buy the dip. If you look at the history of the market having a steep dip one day, there's almost guaranteed a recovery the next day, the times in which there hasn't been a recovery and the market continued to slide are rare. I don’t anticipate it. I think wall street is right on this one (finally) that people aren’t going to be counting on their cable and satellite providers. Now that legal streaming is so convenient, people aren’t going to be torrenting or finding illegal streams either.

Built in audience of sports fans always have new shit to watch.

And kids NEVER get tired of that shit. You plop your kid down in front of the iPad and let it watch toy story for the 30th time, and you don’t have to worry about them stumbling on creepy strange YouTube videos or something.

Add in the original content, Star Wars, marvel, the classics like beauty and the beast or whatever, I just don’t see anyone else winning as much as Disney.

Only thing I don’t know about is there reality tv lineup, if they have that bullshit people watch like real housewives and survivor and jersey shore or whatever.

Besides, they know how to get butts in seats at the theatres, and they’ve still got all that theme park business.

Streaming is actually likely to continue to sell gains. It is easier then even torrenting since that takes time and planning ahead. I fully expect Disney streaming to take off like crazy so long as they keep a large back catalog available and don't be stingy by constantly putting things in an artificial vault.

>Why didn't warren make that much like you said?
There're multiple reasons. At first it was because he comes from a time before options existed. But once you hit a certain dollar amount there becomes an issue of liquidity. Basically you can't go all in on a sure thing option with 10 mil because the market just can't support that. It's also not that safe - your entire portfolio can get blown up by shit that has nothing to do with the company you're investing in, and Warren Buffet has always been a more conservative type who buys undervalued stocks and holds 4 lyfe.
> Why are you so nice?

You have to be very selective in who you listen to. Generally trips are full of shit. Also it's more important to learn why the good traders make certain moves, than it is to learn which moves they're making and try to follow them.

Back then I was playing the Magic TCG mobile games, and had friends who were pretty normie and buying cards and making decks. I really could've seen this coming, and am irritated with myself.

Still, there will be more opportunities.

But now that I don't have the large circle of friends with varied interests and hobbies, and I am out of touch with the new shit and the younger generations, it's going to be harder and harder to see what's going to be hot.

Don't be so sure. This was an oversold bounce. The following few days will tell the true story. An inside candle is a neutral signal in TA. It means there is some indecision happening. Volume has a tendency to fall with each consecutive inside candle until a breakout (either up or down) occurs, at which point volume will spike.

I'm glad we had the Trade shit to be honest. It's a good test to see just how much of a hit you can take before your in the Red. As in below your investment amount as a whole, not just one or two positions.

If you can withstand it and still showing Green, hell even a few cents, you've done good. You can sell it all and least break even. Far better than ending up on the losing side of the deal.

Trade talks aren't officially off yet in September. That's why markets are up still, they think that this is all bluff.

Maybe it is. But if it isn't, we're going STRAIGHT back to June 3rd levels when that news breaks.

And if there is any further tariffs or export controls either way by china or america, then the market will crash.

I'm willing to take that chance. I'm all in.

trade talks will happen. but nothing will come from it. China's door is open to negotiations but when the actual negotiations happen, trump and china don't like what each other have to say. the tariffs will hit before the trade talks too so there is even less good will during the negotiations.

The way things are going, it may take until one or both countries are in serious pain before they capitulate on any meaningful issue. China does not want to give up the good position they have thanks to decades of economic appeasement from the States. If Trump can force China in to bending the knee, it will be worth the pain.

i agree with this assessment. but i think that Trump, personally, is at a disadvantageous position with elections in a year and recession indicators rising due to softening of the economy + trade war. but i also think that China is stubborn and probably would hold out for as long as it takes short of civil unrest. and even with that it's iffy since technology has made it a lot easier to identify and control crowds.

I'm not sure on the regulatory format of the EU, maybe you could use a German firm for trading. Stay away from Deustche Bank though lol.

Maybe the bank that you save your money with has a trading platform too.

Just remember though m8, whatever you buy in the US market needs to be converted from Levs to the USD to be bought, and when you sell it needs to be converted to Levs from the USD.

So even if the stock that you buy stays at the same price for a decade, you could still lose money thanks to exchange rates.

CBS/VIA merger is all but certain. To many rumblings about it. Both companies seem to be in favor of it, shareholders are in favor.

Why should you care? Well Bagging VIA would only set you back $34 per and you'd be getting both companies once they merged. CBS would set you back $45 per. Also once this turns into an official deal both stocks will skyrocket so you could make a short term Profit from it and still hold long term for the Divvy.

Bagging both would set you back $80 per. Why bother? Just bag the cheaper one, save Green, and you'd still end up with both anyway.

Trump's popularity is directly linked to the performance of the stock market. He has made it his legacy by constantly taking credit for it.

On pretty much every other policy front (aside from sidestepping wars in Syria and Iran) he has been a failure. A complete failure. A failure even in what he had promised the people that elected him. So I think his base is apathetic or outright hates him now.

In my eyes, the only thing separating Trump from being Herbert Hoover is a massive stock market decline. If the S&P went down 30% and stayed there, he may even lose enough Republican support (remember, these are all free trader shills) for an impeachment.

The Chinese can absorb a 30% stock market decline easy. They don't give a fuck.

So far my plan has gone smoothly. See once I had 23k in the bank with zero debt plus my 401k. Go me right.

But then "Mr Murphy" hit. Had to pay for a lot of shit. Also got married. Which wasn't bad (the wedding & honeymoon costs). So my cash on hand took a big dive. It took a further hit when I dumped some of it into the market to buy my T Babies, AMRN, etc.

So yeah I ain't broke and I ain't out my whole investment amount unless all my positions just hit zero but still. To me it's money spent. Which means I gotta pay it all back (23k).

Phase 1 - Saving as much as I can plus tax refunds

Phase 2 - AMRN; Will see me make between 14k - 40k depending. At this point I'd have paid myself back plus more.

Phase 3 - Divvy income plus potentially selling a few stocks once they rebound to the 52 w highs or more for long term retirement income later.
