In contrast, consider this variation:

Fatima, an application provider, has a balance of 200 Holo fuel. Ellie, a host, has a negative balance of -200. These balances represent a total active supply of 200 Holo fuel total. Fatima agrees to pay Ellie 50 Holo fuel for hosting services. Fatima ends up with 150 and Ellie ends up with -150, paying off part of Ellie’s debt and removing 50 Holo fuel from circulation.

Therefore, it is only accounts with credit limits, host and reserve accounts, that determine the supply of Holo fuel. When their balances go negative, circulating supply goes up. When their negative balances move toward positive again, in other words, as their debts are paid off, supply goes down - as long as the negative account is transacting with a positive one.

Basically, Holochain is rebuilding 30 years of internet technology. What they are doing has never been done before. It isn't obvious until you study the project for a while, but this is not simple. Othewise it would have been done already. They are creating a way to run applications across multiple computers with no servers in the middle. EVERTHING is being redesigned. Of course they are using some of the existing technology out there, but in untested ways.

You can't start with 50 nodes because when a problem arises, it is 10^50 times more complicated to find the problems. You have to make sure 2 or 3 nodes work as perfectly as possible. When an issue is found, it has to be fixed, then tested again. They are also developing automated test procedures. At the start this will slow down development because some resources have to be used to test and develop the automation. This is an investment that will pay off later when they get to 50+ nodes.

There are about 1.5 billion websites at the moment, with an average web hosting cost of 10 bucks a month. Assuming one Holofuel is worth a month of hosting costs, Holofuel could muscle out current webhosts at 4 dollars per fuel, while still retaining whatever other utility fuel has. I think 4 dollars is a reasonable estimate based on just the disruption to commercial webhosting alone. When you add in the threat to things like AWS, it could jump to 6 bucks on that utility alone. So...that's a pretty good deal.

They have been manufactured. I expect they will still be delivered to avoid legal issues, but not until next year. The software will be a very limited version of what was originally promised and won't work as expected. As long as they "host" something they could be ok from a legal perspective. We had a meeting recently and someone on the support side said we've had a large number of refunds in the past weeks. While I personally don't have access to verify that information, it would make sense. Many staff on multiple teams know what's really happening and they'd be sharing it with friends who bought ports.
