It's browser/software based. Your key is encrypted on your computer. With a hardware wallet your key/seed never leaves the device. It's a lot safer. Doesn't matter much if you have 500$ in crypto but once you get in the thousands you gotta play it safe.

It's also 1000x more difficult to attack a trezor than software based attacks by intercepting/modifying addresses because you verify them on the device screen.
