That is retarded. Instead of trying to make it and spend your youth reaching some goal, taking risks and pushing yourself you choose to suffer for pennies and settlw for the minimum when you are old. Early retirement is definitely NOT overrated.

I was an early code monkey hire at a successful startup exit (hint: most of you probably use this), retired at 34 with $2.5 million in a PNW suburb.

The beauty of it, for me, is there is no set scheduled or typical day. This could be bad for some people, but I love it. Sure, I've got my lazy times, but have been pretty productive.

I've done more travel, more golf, some home improvement, and a lot more socializing. And, due to a more active lifestyle, including a fair amount of hiking, and a healthier diet (due to more time to prepare/cook better meals), I've lost 15 pounds.

I guess you could say a standard day without much plans would be something like:

>wife and i are usually up by about 7 am, I'm not the type to really sleep in
>take dog for walk/feed
>have coffee and breakfast
>check investments/crypto, read up on business news
>do some stuff around the house, clean or run to store
>hit the gym, shower
>lunch either in or out with friends
>go hiking in the afternoon, often with my dog or a group
>sometimes a late afternoon nap
>dinner out with wife, sometimes friends for an event such as concert or a sporting event/game

Again, I love that there is no set schedule. The important thing is that you do keep active. My social life is so much better now than when I was wagecucking.

You can tell a lot about a person and how they handle finances this way.
Do they work to survive?

Word of warning - your wife will begin manufacturing “relationship problems” and will most likely leave you after some period of time, as having the appearance of an active career is an important status signal to women (regardless of what she may tell you). Same thing happened to the Mr. Money Mustache dude last year, and he has kids and way more money too. I expect we’ll begin seeing an epidemic of divorce in the early retirement community

retiring on 2.5mil is different than these people retiring on less than 1mil.
you could set 1mil for an uppclass house and 4 upperclass cars (get new one every 10 years) and still have 1.5mil to generate income passively. even at 5% that would be 75k which is enough to maintain whatever luxuries you are into (unless its hard drugs).

the majority of people doing this are not getting massive buyouts they are saving average income leftovers+ their way until they reach 500k

these people cant afford to order takeout, drink, smoke, travel, tv, internet or any luxuries because they want to be minimalist. thats fine if your luxury is reading books and walking around your neighboorhood.

When he got back, he complained to me that no one even cares that he came back. Had to redpill him on the fact that me and all of his other friends never had that kind of money to waste away, along with the fact that NONE of his experiences were relatable to any of us in ANY WAY, hence why none of us even gave a fuck about his "incredible life-changing stories".

that's literally what anon is trying to tell you, though. it wasn't about money. it was about status
women are biologically wired to want the higher status man. they're also biologically wired to say the opposite of what they truly want, to BELIEVE the opposite of what they truly want even! so your wife telling you to walk away from wagecucking can be a red flag
it's entirely possible you have found the rare, fantastic woman who will stick by your side despite her biology nagging at her. but it's worth considering the early retirement paradigm is already hard to wrap their head around for men. women? that's an extra layer of difficulty (not calling them stupid, they're just not meant to be providers)
if you can manage to keep the flame going, more power to you. usual length for passion is about 3 years, and this applies not just romantically but for paradigm changes too. so i'd look into another big move 3-5 years in, can be something as simple as moving to a different country for a while or getting some pseudo job where you have authority. MMM fucked it up by pursuing his autistic bike/backyard construction interests, had he nudged himself as a benevolent president of local associations, the wife would still be with him, guaranteed

Generally agree except the travel bit. Gotta see the world when you're young anon. It's literally life changing - I was a bit of a racist incel (against Indians and Asians, thought I'd get all the cutie Japanese just by being white, all that jazz), until i went on a backpacking trip after college. Visited Japan, Korea, some tier 1 cities in China etc. and was blown away by how far ahead their cities, lifestyle, mentalities are. Let me tell you something anon, don't believe anything you learn from mainstream media about other countries. Assuming you're American, it's literally part of our country's strategic agenda to bombard its citizens with the American Exceptionalism ideologies. We're so vulnerable to indoctrination without first exposing ourselves to other worldviews to broaden our perspectives. It's the first step to lifelong critical thinking. I'm not telling you to travel like the spoiled begpacker kikes, I'm just suggesting that "travel is a meme" is literally a meme.

Now I'm back in Canada working a comfy 6-fig job and I can't tell you how many times my experiences and stories from overseas helped me build bonds with people and furthered my career, social circle etc

one of my cousins does this, he works as an accountant for some local county government agency, makes $90k a year and literally socks away all of his money except for student loan payments, is 27 and still lives in his mother's basement, literally spends no money whatsoever other than a $20/month gym membership, he doesn't even pay for vidya he just sticks to free to play shit, doesn't own a car (he bikes five miles to work everyday), never goes out never goes to nice restaurants never even goes to McDonald's he still packs a baloney sandwich for lunch everyday

it's ehhhhhh I dunno. I wouldn't want to live like that. but then again he's actually autistic

Is that your original thought deduced from personally studying and meeting people across the country, or did you read that somewhere off news and online forums? Case in point anon, critical think. First off avoid using general terms like "the west", or attributing blame to a group of people so certainly.

Here's a gem of an advice my mentor gave me a few years back: Nothing is as black and white as it seems. If you find yourself drawing conclusions without being experts on the topic, chances are you're way oversimplifying things.

Take this to heart and you'll find yourself a better man at the end of the day

Holy hell. How are you suppose to live like this? Even though you're saving so much money, and make the most of your situation with less. I don't understand how someone could reduce their own lifestyle to the point of being a neo-feudal peasant. Its so hard to think that's possible at all.
What on earth are you suppose to do? Survive off beans and rice? Hard tack and tea? Put your money in stocks? Trading all your life's pleasures now for later? Is it really worth it? This new trend I've been seeing with the FIRE movement makes me doubt them and myself at times.

Not exactly. An index fund with 100% stocks will generate around 7% yearly on average, 4% after inflation. That's 16.6k, 1386 dollar per month. The stock market is also propped up by the SEC, and it's all gonna come crashing down sooner or later. Good luck trying to live on a budget that shrunk 30% overnight. Also just because they can live on a cheap budget now doesn't mean they will be able to do this in the future. Healthcare costs will increase a lot as they get older. Sudden emergency events could also drain their funds in no time.

Retiring early is certainly possible, but you cannot do it safely with 400k. It's smarter to focus on getting a high paying career first, then get out when you have a few million. I make around 120k per year myself, I can live a comfortable life and easily save more than half of what I make.
