The type of people that are able to be whales are different from you and I.

If you know you had 130 million coming in over the next months from various income sources, you'd want the price to remain low during that time. So if you spend 30 million dumping it and suppressing pumps, so that you can gradually buy 130 million worth of Link in lots of tiny little buys on the way down and at the bottom, you end up making a lot more money.
