The fact is that most PhD students are Chinese who are either government sponsored or rich enough to self fund. When they graduate they have jobs guaranteed for them in their home countries. Hence that’s why you often see universities misleadingly bragging about PhDs having “high employment rates”. I’m trying to make ends meat by doing freelance gigs online. But the truth is that domestic PhD students are fucked in this job market
