Normie here. I have seen that Chainlink value will come from use it as collateral in derivatives and insurance companies.

However, none of this appears on their whitepaper. In the document says that LINK will be used only to pay for API calls

at this point the whitepaper is irrelevant. we're years into the project. it's a historical artifact that gives a sense of the initial project intent, not a binding contract on what the devs must do. it's like reviewing uber's original pitch deck and pointing out it doesn't mention self driving cars.

the public aspect of chainlink's tech in its current state is some code that's useful for connecting smart contracts to API calls. who knows what else may or may not exist behind the scenes. the team doesn't care about marketing to drive the token price right now. either it will be valuable or it won't, that depends ultimately on adoption and the final form of the network which is subject to change as market fit is found.
price action in the meantime could be anything. insiders accumulating, whales distributing, etc.
the current price is above what you can validate from current public information, so research is kind of futile at this point
