I retired in my mid 30s after 15 years of engineering. I can't imagine returning to work for someone else.

I wake up between 5 and 6am most days and play around on the internet until I feed the dog at 7. If it’s Monday, I’ll get the laundry together so I can start that at 8. I’ll make breakfast and prepare my wife’s lunch (she still works). I’ll shower, straighten up the kitchen, then the three of us walk to where she works.

On Monday, I spend most of the day at home doing laundry and playing video games. Sometimes there’s a little more to do to straighten up the place (sometimes we entertain guests on the weekend). I try to do most of the chores on Monday. Sweep the house, change the sheets, scrub the bathrooms, etc. (I do these every few weeks and not all the same week unless we’re expecting company). Probably every other day I pick up something at the store-usually fresh fruit.

Wednesday is my main grocery trip. (It’s not that large, I walk and fill a backpack and usually one other bag). I try not to overbuy so I go often. It’s kind of nice since I’m trying to learn German so I take my time. Sometimes my wife will have requests (buy a gift for a friend, mail something, etc). I have a mailbox in Germany so some days I ride my bike over there. Saturday is market day, so we’ll all walk to the farmers market and get produce and baked treats in the morning.

I feed the dog again at 5pm and start making dinner. The dog and I try to meet my wife on her walk home from work around 6:30 and we’ll have dinner. Usually we’ll talk for a bit and I’ll play on the computer til about 10 and go to bed.

I was going to language classes every day 8:30-10 and may take it up again but haven’t been motivated for it lately.

Heh, it's funny you say that. I obviously do other things as well. I have sort of a love-hate relationship with routines.

I have found that what works for me is splitting my life into 10-week phases.

In each of those phases I will focus on a single goal. Learn a new language, develop an android app, improve my weight lifting maximum, get a diving certification, etc.

In each phase I will settle into a routine, but it might be a totally different routine from the last phase. I found that 10 weeks is a sweet spot. Long enough for the routine to lead me into a productive "flow state" but short enough for it not to become nauseating.

After each phase I will take off 4 weeks of fallow time.
