I have a trading strategy I would like some validation on before taking positions.

So I look at a lot of these ETFs and ETNs that are prone to decay. What are the pros and cons of shorting something like SQQQ and TVIX, letting it die from contango / backwardization / judaism and then buying it back?

You can get around paying interest on keeping your short open by constructing a synthetic short. Buy 100 shares of your decaying etf, write an itm call and buy an itm put. Your position will act like a short as long as it stays inbetween the strikes, you hit max profit if it falls below your short call, and you straight up lose money if it goes higher than the price you bought the 100 shares plus credit received (or minus debit).

Obviously like real shorting, it‘s kinda a risky position to take and you only have as long as until the options expire.

Take a longer term view (these are monthly candles), you can easily see when the true bear markets where you can reap big profits from the downside are. They are very rare, your odds are better by placing longer bets on the upside.

I just jumped back onto the Tesla train now that it looks like the demand is in fact actually there. Currently holding 10 shares.
