I do agree we're looking for news now. The markets are at a point where any large black swan event would instantly knock the market down 10% within a few days.

it's not carbon zero at all, the facilities are massive concrete blocks that take enormous amounts of water and energy to produce. They're carbon-intensive structures.

They also make the land they're built on unusable, and we still have NEVER successfully decommissioned a nuclear power plant.

Also, the tech keeps getting better, so by the time you've finished construction on one, it's already "obsolete". Making it seem like the best time to switch to nuclear is always later.

Lastly, huge terror risk. Creates a giant target that could be used to destroy a large area and cripple the infrastructure for a much larger area.

I really like the idea of nuclear. Everything has costs, we're fucking up our water supply with fracking and fucking up the climate with hydrocarbons, but nuclear is hard to fully endorse.

You'd have to be foolish not to have serious reservations about nuclear energy, even if you think it's the best option.

COLM is also a based and clothepilled brand. Similar rational, but I would only wait for a 20 to 25% crash, as it's fundamentals determine it's actually cheaper than VFC
It doesn't have as long of a dividend history as VFC, however it will grow both it's equity and dividend faster

AEO is not based.
I wear their clothing on a regular basis, and at one point they produced a hoodie that made me look like the unabomber. Very cool!!
However, their dividend could be considered erratic at best.
Lack of stable divided shows that someone at the top is a loser cuck who needs to get their life together.
If AEO was able to grow their dividend at at least a 6.6% rate for three years in a row, then I would very much buy.

Recently a stock at Shanghai market have become really popular, 603000, People.CN
The reason behind the stock's popularity is that it is now running a very large team of censorship service, have close relation to the Chinese government to know what need to be censored and also have advanced censoring algorithm, therefore it have accepted a lot of outsourced censoring request from other SME company, and as Chinese government censorship demand become more and more far-reaching, their business are also growing very rapidly, which also lead to increase in their stock price.

Oh no... that sounds like a really good investment, one American investors don't have access to.

it's too bad. I'm feeling increasingly that foreign investment in Chinese companies through the stock market is just foolish. We don't understand the superstitions based on numbers, and there's too much government involvement that outsiders can't be aware of. I would guess that companies get favorable treatment by the government based on personal connections, familial relationships, etc. I don't know, just too many unknown variables.

Technically you can invest into Shanghai stock market, by opening a stock account at Hong Kong, by using the "Shanghai -Hong Kong Stock connect" program, but I really wouldn't recommend it. It is still a immature market, one that everyone from Buffett to domestic small investors to Chinese economist would all describe it as a casino, in the sense that most of the trading are only based in speculation instead of actually related to the value of the stock. And it is not even a regular casino, it is one that even the banker in the casino would join and play by using funds and policies to affect the market.

Trump knows playing hard ball with the Chinks is going to make the stock market take a hit. Why he was jumping up and down for QE and lower rates a month or so ago is because more liquidity in the system allows him to play harder with China.

If Trump can exert enough pressure to bluff the Chinese into compromising...well...

Time horizon of less than 18 months?
Yes, bet on US.

More than 10 years?
Long both.

In between then? Seems we’re due for a recession, gotta pay attention to whether or not we get new QE like has been discussed. My thesis is shaping up to be: Pullbacks this year as trade war rolls on, but gradually moves higher, bull runs all through election year, new ATH after trump is re-elected, then Greater Depression if there is no new QE magic.

I gotta look into how to play that with bonds...

Why not invest in the S&P, and when you retire slowly sell off your assets until you have none? It's a poor strategy either way, best way is to ensure several sources of income.

Thoughts on money market funds?

I was looking for a way into bonds because i think shit hits the fan early 2021 at the latest. Stumbled upon Schwab’s municipal money fun for California, SWKFF. Apparently capital gains would be completely exempt (or close enough) to federal and state tax.

Also like that there’s no $5 transaction fees, so it seems like a safe way to hold cash, even though there’d be a day or so delay in freeing up liquidity.

If the Sprint T-mobile deal fails to win regulatory approval the company is in deep trouble. Plus, the merger does not neccesarrily mean that they will actually provide much in new products or services. The firm has been burning money and will continue to do so as it rolls out 5G (*cough*).

The sprint network is far inferior to those of the three major competitors in most locations. It's addressable market is much smaller as a result, limiting growth the firm could ever hope to achieve.
Worse yet, sprints troubles over the last decade have tarnished its reputation. Even customers it can serve well may not be willing to give the firm a try.

Rumors of it mooning are pretty much bullshit.

I can't trust my stoplosses since getting fucked recently, and I can't afford to spend this week just watching the market. How do you folks deal with it if you're actively investing?

Bigger question is on the dangerous OTC "penny stocks" with major volatility. I no longer want to put a stop loss, in fact I'd rather buy more if it dips hard. But there's no way of knowing if it'll just crash to .00000001

The uncertainty is getting to me. I think I understand why some around here have had total breakdowns.

it's not the craziest thing in the world. People think if you have a winning system, why not help them win too.

They don't realize what a shitty proposition it is for the other person.

If your risk tolerance is that lie turn don't invest in risky things.

Penny stocks aren't that volatile unless you're investing in literal scams.

Leaf markets did fine today. TSX went +0.72%. My holding (singular- all in: Tetra BioPharma) put in a healthy +3.28%. I will scale that position back to something more reasonable in the next couple days. Pretty sure it has at least another 4% in it on range alone judging by today's good volume buying and no MOC downtick. When shorts stop downticking it the thing is usually ready to fly.

Holy shit it's in Vietnam now?!
The commodity traders have to know about this stuff already right? Isn't this stuff controlled by the big boys? I always think commodities are more complex than plain old stocks...

I only know about COWS.
I'd do more research but I gotta study for exams.

make sure your pantry is full of food that lasts
food prices around the world will be up

but it's a good feeling to live in the world's #1 food producing nation, we don't have to worry about starvation the way the chinks do :^)

Damn son. I'm not sure how to interpret all this data, except to think that food is gonna be getting real expensive. Better stock up on discount protein bars.

I can't tell if it's good for commodities markets when there's a shortage. Yes, prices go up but less sales are made... I don't understand what the futures are really measuring...
