Previously #3 on CMC. At its peak, it was priced at $450 while LTC was priced at $340. At the peak of the next bullrun, XMR will have less than 1% inflation. That is just value appreciation in a speculation bubble. If any gains any sort of traction as the defacto privacy coin if/when cryptos become mainstream, then you're truly holding some infinity stones right now.

Dark markets have been decimated in the last couple of years. Even so, it was like 97% BTC. Monerjuo wallet has a xmr.to service which allows you to convert XMR to BTC when you transact so a lot of people were actually using XMR instead of mixing BTC which takes time, costs money and you are taking risk. In addition to transactions, I think the bigger use case is a crypto Swiss Bank account of sorts to hide your money.

>>13738344

I think at the very least Monero ends up getting banned in exchanges at some point. This might make it take a huge hit in price but eventually it'll only add to it's legitimacy.

I think a lot of Monero adoption will come down to how much people will interact with crypto directly. The general consensus is that crypto is too technical for the normie. But things change in a generation. I am an old fag and I remember teaching people to point and click to open up Windows and browser the internet, upload pictures, etc. It was painful. I also travelled to 3rd world countries where my dad said they'll never use cell phones because they don't have the infrastructure and people are too stupid. Now poor kids all over the world are running smartphones or poor fags are eliminating the middleman in poor countries just using cellphones. Even if mainstream adoption doesn't come, all it takes is a small percentage of technically literate people to realize the value of a digital Swiss bank account -- and I think that will happen.

Thanks Anon. I really haven't used the markets the last couple of years. Used AlphaBay in 2015 and 2016. Then Dream in 2017. Nothing really since then. Those were huge and even when XMR was supported it was mostly Bitcoin. But I saw a big change in vendors accepting XMR in Dream compared to AlphaBay until they removed XMR.

I am familiar with some of these and the avengers forum. I'll check them out.

EVERYTHING has bled sats and lost value in ratio to Bitcoin. If you look at the June 2017 BTC was $2,500, ETH was $370, XRP was $0.30, LTC was $46, XMR was $49, DASH as $190, IOTA was $0.40, ZCASH was $376, etc..... Hell LTC was $50 in 2013.

Once a coin rises and gains value, it generally bleeds to eternity against BTC unless it can show actual value and utility. You hold coins like ETH and XMR because long term, you are speculating that there actual utility and a use case for it.

Monero is one of the only coins that I think has a legitimate usecase but I don't see why its value would go up significantly. Its main purpose is to perform illegal transactions on the darkweb, it'll never see mainstream adoption. The average person barely has a need for crypto and an even lower need for privacy crypto.

READ this whole article and replace Monero with Bitcoin

> Thirty years ago, we had several means of making transactions anonymously, without governments knowing about therm. For small sums, cash was almost completely anonymous, although numbered bills always gave police departments the chance to trace transactions in large criminal cases. For larger amounts, there were a wide range of banking jurisdictions offering anonymity and complete respectability to those seeking a safe bolt-hole for their cash ...

> This was no doubt convenient for Third World dictators, terrorists and the international Mafia, but it is also essential for ordinary citizens, for one very good reason: governments cannot be trusted. They always seek to expand their control and income, and they will generally give way to temptation if it is presented to them, even fleetingly. The extreme example, of course, is that of the Jewish inhabitants of inter-war Germany who had the foresight to hold a Swiss bank account; if they were able to escape when the Nazis came to power, as many were, their Swiss bank accounts were essential to being able to re-start their lives in a safe country.

> Yes, those unfortunates who did not manage to escape and did not tell their non-German families about the Swiss bank account provided an unexpected bonus for the Swiss banks, but contrary to public hysteria when this was revealed; this did not make the Swiss banks collaborators with the Nazis. It made them diligent service providers whose diligence could not solve all their clients’ problems, just the financial ones. But against governments less insane than the Third Reich, financial defenses are often the ones you need most.

No. zk-snarks space math is way more vulnerable than Monero's cryptography which has been around for decades and has proven itself over time to be a reliable form of zero knowledge proofs. It's much more likely that zk-snarks have some fundamental flaw (other than the trusted setup) that could be discovered in the future than quantum computers unraveling Monero's encryption in our fucking lifetimes. If you're worried about quantum computers breaking Monero get back to me in 400 years. Also, the optional privacy on coins like Zcash leave themselves vulnerable to temporal analysis because so few people use ztransactions that when they are made they stick out like a sore thumb.
