"Making it" is freedom to live your life in your own way. It's to escape the proletariat class (the blue hemisphere) and join the capitalist class (the red hemisphere). Depending on how frugal you are, it might not actually take a lot of money to be on the red side. I have about 100 vending machines, and it makes a comfortable $40k-ish a year in profit. I don't have to work, just oversee my employees that make pickups and maintenance. I feel like a millionaire... I go hiking, garden and play video games. Life is good.

It's as easy as literally just buying used machines on ebay, just make sure you find something close and either have a truck or someone who can lend it to you. Soda machines are the big ones (but never shy away from buying any machines you find for cheap). Once you buy a few and you have cashflow, you create a corporation and get a small business loan from the bank and you can now set up several machines at a time, eventually you start cannibalizing your own business so depending on the size of the city and your competitors, you will eventually reach a ceiling.

The art of profit is finding locations, a good soda/snack combo can leave you $500+ in a good location... you start off slower as begin to "get" the artform but you're looking for the lazy and undisciplined customer... kids, black people, overworked suburbanites. You go into a business and offer an establishment 10% of the gross income of the machine in exchange for energy costs/real estate. You need to have them sign a contract that they won't hide your machine (you'd be surprised), will stop anyone trying to vandalize it or steal from it. At first you do the pickups and maintenance yourself (everything is on youtube), but you want to get an employee as soon as you can. You'll soon learn being on the other side that you have to be a bit of an asshole because if allowed to do what they want, employees will always fuck around on your dime and/or straight up steal your cash.

Like everything the beginning is the hardest, after a while, depending on your country/ state, you have enough cashflow where buying machines is easy and you can write off all your expenses in your taxes, it's just that first hump you have to get over.

Then there's buying out your competition, once you reach your ceiling, you can go around your city and make a deal with other vending machine operators to sell their "stake" with you or negotiate with the real estate a more favorable contract with their profits, expect some of your locations to be sniped by bigger guys at the beginning, especially when you can't afford a lawyer to draft a good contract with the real estate.
