Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Not sure it will be together in a few decades. Secession of some states will start to become a serious thing. It's going to balkanize. In the last few years we've had serious calls to change the electoral system, a serious attempt to depose the president based on false information, and a near constant propaganda barrage. The fact that racial grievance is now being pressed on very hard for political gain is a serious no-no in a society that claims to want to be multicultural. People are openly being told to vote based on their race, gender, or genitalia.

All institutions that should be respected are no longer worthy. People can't trust public education, academia, science, national media, government, banks, corporations, nothing. All the people who claim elite status are stupid, narcissistic, and hate large swathes of their own countrymen. Zero trust society.

Its a joke because the only power people still have is to laugh.

Looks like the market is finding some base on the day, at least. I got stopped out of my weeklong XLV position, in the green. The best thing to do on massive red days (or chained red days) is to observe the SPY's sectors at the end of the night and see which are stronger than others on these bad bad red days. Seems like real estate is the strongest sector today, up 0.50%, every other sector red.

This study is small and wasn't even funded by VTGN (fully covered by the NIMH), and could not have been a harder trial to pass
The difference between the NIMH study's clinical population and the the ELEVATE study's clinical population is the difference between end stage cancer patients and early stage cancer patients
The NIMH study was as a monotherapy (meaning the only treatment used, no other meds at all) for an extremely severe group of patients that nothing else has worked for
Their phase 2 ELEVATE trial is as an adjunct therapy (meaning it's used in addition to other treatments) for MDD, with a patient population that's much less severely ill
No other drug currently approved for treatment would have passed that NIMH trial by definition (treatment resistant patients)
If they fail their ELEVATE trial (entirely different population of patients), then AV-101 is probably fucked tho

Also, if you don't wanna hit up the reliable Div Aristos and just go wild with ALL div companies (even bottom of the barrel trash), use this screener and play around with the fields:

https://finviz.com/screener.ashx?v=211&f=fa_div_high,ta_highlow52w_a0to10h&ft=4&o=perf1w

(These are companies with a yield of 5% or more, within 10% or less of their 52 week low, but tweak the settings to fit your stomaching)

Also, just looking at the charts at the link above, I would never ever touch any of these. Just because the yield is high, doesn't necessarily mean it is good, just means that its paying a lot because its stock price is falling. Which could also lead to dividend cuts to stay afloat, which will lead to investors jumping ship and the stock price falling even harder, endless loop etc. Play around with the fields at the top and the tabs to view the results though

Div Aristos are companies that have consistently INCREASED their divs every year, for the past 25 yrs straight, so they're pretty reliable and should in theory keep paying more. However, due to this, they are pretty damn good companies, and because of this, their share prices are pretty high, but worth the investment.

Lastly, you can view the div yield % as basically the ratio of dividend returns compared to the price of entry (share price at current market price). If a company has a ridiculous high div %, then something could be wrong, as the share price is mega low but they're still paying out massive dividends to holders (which isn't sustainable in the long term if the company is actually doing bad, they'll need that div cash). This could lead to slashing div paybacks or just getting rid of them completely to save money for the company.

I think rule of thumb is to be cautious when div yield is above like 4-5%, really look into the company and if its in trouble or not. (Div fren can probably provide insight on this)

For a recent example, take a look at GME (Gamestop). They're holding their dividend even though their ERs are getting pretty rough, just look at the chart. The company can't keep paying it forever. And for another example, take a look at GE (General Electric): they had multiple dividend slashes to save money for the company in trouble. GE was a nice meaty div payer for boomers for the loooongest time and an essential part of many retirement funds as a div payer. The moment the share price started tanking and the div cuts came in, people jumped the fuck out of it, wasn't reliable as a div payer for boomers any more.

the press does not have complete freedom of speech. They cannot baselessly smear someone for example without risk of getting sued for defamation. They are the curators of the content that appears on their platforms.

Social media theoretically was a public square, where the individual posters are the owners of their own statements, similar to how on 4chan at the bottom of every page it says
>All trademarks and copyrights on this page are owned by their respective parties. Images uploaded are the responsibility of the Poster. Comments are owned by the Poster.

By picking and choosing who is allowed to speak on their platform, social media has ceased its function of being a public forum and instead has become curators of their site content. For this reason, anyone should be able to sue facebook or twitter or whoever if they see a defamatory comment.
This is a huge mistake for Facebook and the internet in general in my opinion. They should definitely strive to remain a neutral platform for the speech of its users.

prices actually move in patterns. thats not the thing thats wrong. the thing where everything fails is predicting those patterns to such a degree that you can profit from it. many people dont get that but most people who trade also have no education in finance which is a huge problem. people lose way too much money beacuse frauds advertise TA. its like esoterics who feast on the lack of knowledge from others

RH is used frequently here because of its no commission, no fee structure, which allows for a more active trading style without paying the big house big cuts. Its also mobile friendly and has friendly UI. But also a fuckton of serverside issues that tend to kick in right when you need to sell sometimes.

I like TDAmeritrade for all of their site research and mainly their ThinkOrSwim software platform which is excellent for charting and many other things. The charge about 6 bucks a trade, last I checked. However, you can open an account w them for like 50 bucks (and then moving 49.99 back out to bank lmao) and just use their resources for free while executing trades somewhere else

ETrade is pretty good but webui dated, I think I have commissions for a dollar cheaper there than at TDA.

M1 investing is very similar to RH w the mobile platform and no fees and all. They also let you buy fractional shares, eg, if Amazon is $1000 a share and you only have $20, you can buy a fraction of a full share. Hardly anyone else does this.

YouInvest is a new broker from JPMorgan Chase that is for the common retail investor. I believe they also offer the first 100 trades free during the first year or something.

TastyWorks is a stellar platform w decent commission fees if you wanna do nothing but Options trade like a madman

this is evidently wrong

the astonishing part is that not even fundamental analysis seems to work good enough to justify doing it. of course thats how many banks earn money but again also for fundamental analysis no hedge fund or investment bank so far could ever outperform the market consistently with their equity research. (see mutual fund performance from fama)

the only thing that seems to earn you a systematic market premium is when you have insider information f.e. high frequency snipingor front running.

a very funny study even concluded that those who trade random often perform better (still negative average returns) than average informed traders. by the way high informed traders who outperformed the market where only 12 insitutions world wide with each having atleast, if i remember correctly, 500 bn usd under management. so if you have less than that your expected return is most likely negative for trading in any market

and its not even like there is a debate about all what ive just said. no journal, no reviewed research, no educational book states anything different

I mean their chart over the past 3 months is brutal a lot of volatility and I’m not familiar with mining and mineral companies so I’ll have to research some more before going ham on calls they seem to have had a decent setup a month back until they got dinged for something then got dinged again and now here. So I don’t see 30 as bottom or 29 maybe 28.75-28.90 and then calm until a new CEO worth their salt come in. Idk interesting shit but hey the market prices Beyond meat at 70 bucks a share for just existing and tanks MRO after beating earnings 416% so crazy things happen

Why would it crash? Our current meat consumption is unsustainable. If people want to eat the same amount of meat per capita 50 years from now, they'll need substitutes.

I worked on them while they were building a nuclear plant. They foresaw a change of general contractor and ordered like $120m worth of cranes and pumps and charged the client a premium.
On the flip side they own the most successful SMR nuclear power company (NuScale), which has yet to take off. I would long them after maybe a month or two.

I don't see any good news for SMRs or any US nuclear reactors coming any time soon. Trump doesn't seem for it politically, and the Dem contenders are neutral at best.
Only way to make money in the US on nuclear is maintenance and decom of current plants, and selling to China. I would be surprised if the Chinese don't want to design their own instead of buying

The Westinghouse AP1000 design was such a fiasco that the faith in large scale american reactors has been soiled for probably the next 50 years. I'm pro-nuclear, but the costs of building a large scale reactor are far higher than people would have you believe due to NRC's strict regulations and the exorbitantly high cost of unforeseen complications.
SMR aims to eliminate many of the terrible problems that occur with building a nuclear reactor in a construction site as well as maintaining it. It's really being held back by the lack of American nuclear advocacy in general.

>> No.13504061

>>13503979
I understand all of that, I'm nuc eng
SMRs have real technical issues of their own (depending on which design you're talking about), but obviously smaller capital investment and risk, and lower install times, is a big benefit.

but connected with the lack of advocacy is a lack of any regulatory framework

I'm working towards ADS, which has huge technical challenges but offers benefits that can't be imagined in a non-ADS system

Based hot rats. No one else has been talking about cashing out their S&P holdings and I worry I’m beimg overly cautious. (Also not cautious enough).

But if the S&P (or total market?) really tanks 10%, im going to be happy I freed up those funds.

another so so day. bought some gme and lions gate stock. hell lgf was at it's lowest point in 52 weeks when i bought it so i feel pretty good. gme is still pretty low also. didn't blow a lot on either so hey if they blow up it won't hurt me any.

once I pay some shit off and whatnot I'm gonna start dumping a few bucks over in my brokerage each month. then at the end of the year or when i get a nice big pile sitting there buy a nice block of more T babies.

Goal is to have 200 or more T babies by year 2020 (got 101 & 1/2 right now). Then sit on them for 20 years or slightly longer and let drip work it's magic
