Any advice for doing a successful spending freeze? I've been throwing money around too much lately and it's making me feel guilty. I want to relearn how to go for months at a time without buying anything that isn't absolutely necessary.

Take your paycheck and immediately allocate 75% of it to stocks and bonds. It's not really a waste and you won't be spending it.

Pay yourself first.

Also avoid temptation as much as possible. Go buy things once a month and in the morning because in the morning your willpower is strongest.

Also, stop being a cunt and just do it!

Each paycheck I've got it setup to where $ XXX.XX dollars gets automatically sucked out and going to different accounts/purposes to aid my retirement years. This way I never miss the money and can't spend it either. Whatever amount is left after I pay my bills, etc is my "play money"

Buy a library card and a bicycle.
Take your bike everyday, to go rent a kayak with your library card.
Every weekend, rent a canoe instead of a kayak, and go fishing, until you have food for the week.
You will be spending less if you catch your own food, and all your activites involve free outdoor stuff.

I physically hurt myself before I compulsive buy. I usually bite my cheeks or tongue until they bleed a bit.
