Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I have no fucking idea how to play earnings in this environment. >> No.13327517

>>13327457
I did a little research on Netflix earnings, they don’t really move the stock much, ER is usually baked in. Premiums on puts/calls are super inflated too.
A really bad ER could potentially hurt them and a really good one might correct some of the pts stolen by Disney. If anything I’d play earnings by doing a straddle or strangle on Disney, which already has plenty of momentum and potential for volatility in its own right.
Like if AAPL fans some AAPL streaming bullishness into their earnings and has a great ER, Disney could take a hit of 2-5% so even if Netflix earnings doesn’t affect Disney, the potential for significant upward or downward movement means your options are less likely to hit expiry otm.

>> No.13327523

>>13327494
Earnings as a whole should be OK, remember that during Q4 earnings reports companies were lowering guidance. So companies don't have huge earnings projections to beat, most should beat.
The question is what their guidance will be for Q2 performance, really.
Again, I think most companies are in 'don't rock the boat' mode.
Even if their earnings are really good, they will emphasize diligence over euphoria. If earnings aren't so good, they will say 'everything is fine, stay the course'.
So for me, none of these earnings reports individually should move the market. But if everything is coming up better than expected through Monday and pre-market Tuesday, I think we start to see some upward momentum.

NFLX is a bit of a blocker for me, I don't know which way they would go and they're pretty solidly at 350 for now.

yo everything you posted here is textbook for a trader heading towards wipeout. if you're constantly pressured and thinking about big numbers you missed that isn't helpful.

when I sell options or stocks I never go back and calculate exactly how much I missed out on. I have a general idea, but I don't care what the numbers are.

if you're young you will get so many chances to make money. So many. The most important thing always is to stay safe, so that you can continue to enjoy these opportunities while keeping your stack healthy and growing.

You can't get greedy, can't chase virtual gains, most importantly don't get impatient, always be reminding yourself that the most important thing about investing or trading is to make sure that you can 'be there' for the dozens of opportunities in the next 5, 25, 50 years.

if you go to hard and wipe out in the next opportunities you see, then you won't make it to the next 50 great moments where you could be making compounding gains

timing your sells is always difficult, no one has an easy time with it. always err on the side of caution and locking in gains

I've never delved into it myself. Scares me a bit. Covering a straddle by writing options like .5 dollars from the SP and then buying options 1 dollar from the SP (maybe adding a big strangle way otm to make it interesting) seems like it'd be a good hedge.
But brokers don't really automatically understand this kind of hedge so when you try to write you need like 100,000 in collateral even though the max you lose is whatever the difference between what you wrote and purchased ends up being.

No, that's Uber. Shorts are getting rich off Lyft and everyone's piling on. Uber will go the same way, but Uber's IPO presents itself signifcantly better than lyft's.

>As I see it, inflation creeping up is the signal that "free money time" is coming to an end.

and it makes me think you mean 'bread and butter' inflation of consumer goods. So I'm not really picking up what you're putting down. Overall monetary supply in the economy isn't going parabolic. The several trillions of QE money are set and stagnant, IE not traditionally inflationary.
