So, I'm new to this whole thing, just started researching crypto and the like, everyone's talking about this chainlink thing but looking it up, it has something to do with "oracles" and "smart contracts"? And I don't fully get what these things are, could someone explain them?

I've tried looking this stuff up but thanks to all the 30-something boomers thinking crypto is some miracle cure that will solve their erectile as well as their marital dysfunction, I can't find shit that isn't clickbait bullshit with some onions boy asking hypothetical questions about the speculated future of some cuck-currency under the pretense that crypto can and will make him rich when so far he's made like $4 in the past 2 months and thinks everything will work out.

A smart contract is a computer protocol that facilitates trade between two parties.
Smartcontracts already exsist but they are limited to sending tokens. If I spend 1eth to receive x amount of LINK tokens, then Ethereum handles the transaction and all is good.

But if I want to send you 1 ETH for the outcome of a baseball game, then the contract requires outside data that is delivered with an “oracle”.
