This

Its impossible for a single person to make that much wealth. At most a person can do maybe twice as much as the average person. These billionaires aren't super geniuses, they were just there at the start of big companies or have their name in on profitable conglomerates. Heading companies where thousands are the true wealth creators

The only way they're gaining more power is by leveraging the power they already have. Not cause they're savants that are better than others in any other capacity.

If you take those 26 billionaires, strip them of all their money and reset them they won't even come close to returning back at the level they are now. Maybe the truly talented few could become millionaires, but that's it.

This. Money should not be treated as a productive instrument, only as a measuring stick for the value of goods and services, for it is those that are the REAL economy. Wallstreet produces literally nothing (not even returns beating the indexes, unless you are very lucky) yet they are like 30% of the economy, maybe more if we consider the manipulations of the fed combined with the financial engineering of wallstreet to create massively over-leveraged corporate and govt sectors, and the influence of their money effectively giving them rule of law. Mark my words, SP, Moody's and Fitch are being very generous with their corporate bond ratings; we know they are over levered, but measured by debt ratios alone it's actually much worse. >> No.13181302

>>13181115
of course not, it's not the same. one family controlling so much of the world's wealth over centuries is radically different than any number of individuals being wealthy through businesses generating some sort of value for the world. why are you even on a business board if you don't see that? the prime tenet of capitalism is fruitful competition. there's no competition when a cartel stands united on top and has done so for the last 400 years. it means peaceful resolution to the problem is impossible, and suggestions like wealth tax are laughable because they would never let you tax their wealth. instead, it's an anti-competitive measure to further entrench their dominant position
then you get this thread, 180 posts of retards arguing about their 90iq republican/democrat worldviews while ignoring the real problem. the net result is not merely ignorance, it's actually worsening the problem as so much effort is wasted on the wrong causes

Their money is just numbers on a piece of paper. They use that enormous sum to start new businesses, investments in other companies, effective philanthropy (e.g. Bill Gates eradication of malaria & vaccines project, education in the 3rd world, Golden Rice).

Yes I am arguing for unironic job creation and stimulus. One dude with $10B can do more than 10,000 dudes with $1 Million each.

Why would you work when you're keeping less than half of what you earn?
Why would a world class heart surgeon perform surgery when he's getting less than half the money for the same amount of work. He wouldn't, so the waiting list gets longer, or the price of the surgery gets even higher so that he can get adequately compensated, because the government is taking more than half. Meaning people die on waiting lists or can't afford surgery.
The Rock has a valuable skillset. Why would he star in another movie when he gets 30% of the money for the same amount of work. He wouldn't, so he stays at home, the movie doesn't get made, and all the other people who would have gotten a job if he signed on, the boom mic operator, the extras and so on don't get a job.
Is the point of this to increase revenue, or to punish the rich?

Sweden had high marginal tax rates in the 1970s, and it was the lowest point for the economy.
Reagan tax cuts increased government revenue
The proposed brackets you are talking about not only are uneffective, but immoral.

All that the government can do in reality is change the tax rate. How much tax revenue that will produce depends on how people react. There have been some times when higher tax rates have produced lower tax revenues, and some other times when lower tax rate have produced higher tax revenues.

In the 1920s, for example, the tax rate on the highest incomes was reduced from 73 percent to 24 percent– and the income tax revenue rose substantially — especially tax revenues received from people in the highest income brackets.

In terms of words on paper, the official tax rate was cut from 73 percent to 24 percent. But in terms of events in the real world, the tax rate actually paid — on staggering sums of money previously hidden in tax shelters rose from zero percent to 24 percent. This produced huge increases in tax revenues received from high-income people, both absolutely and as a percentage of all income taxes collected. That is because 24 percent of something is larger than 73% of nothing.

But none of these facts has made the slightest difference to those who continue to call tax rate reductions “tax cuts for the rich,” even when high-income people end up paying more tax revenue than before. The very possibility that tax rates and tax revenues can move in opposite directions has seldom been mentioned in the media, a crucial error of omission.

In 1990, Congress levied a 10% luxury tax on expensive cars, boats, jewelry and furs, and private planes expecting to “soak the rich” and raise a lot of Tax Revenue. But the Tax Base shrunk so dramatically that “the luxury tax took in $97 million less in their first year than had been projected — for the simple reason that people were buying a lot fewer of these goods,”

Is government the best option when it comes to making good education accessible? The track record seems to not show this. It shows the cost rising with nothing to show for it.
As for homeless facilities, these types of policies have been show to fail under government administration

Why don't we look at the track records of countries who increased their taxation

>The wealth tax earns the government about $2.6 billion a year but has cost the country more than $125 billion in capital flight since 1998.

To elaborate
Both President John F. Kennedy, who launched the proposal for a "war on poverty" and his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, who guided the legislation through Congress and then signed it into law, were very explicit as to what the "war on poverty" was intended to accomplish.

Its mission was not simply to prove that spending money on the poor led to some economic benefits to the poor. Nobody ever doubted that. How could they?

What the war on poverty was intended to end was mass dependency on government. President Kennedy said, "We must find ways of returning far more of our dependent people to independence."

The same theme was repeated endlessly by President Johnson. The purpose of the "war on poverty," he said, was to make "taxpayers out of taxeaters." Its slogan was "Give a hand up, not a handout." When Lyndon Johnson signed the landmark legislation into law, he declared: "The days of the dole in our country are numbered."

Now, 50 years and trillions of dollars later, it is painfully clear that there is more dependency than ever.

Ironically, dependency on government to raise people above the poverty line had been going down for years before the "war on poverty" began. The hard facts showed that the number of people who lived below the official poverty line had been declining since 1960, and was only half of what it had been in 1950.

On the more fundamental question of dependency, the facts were even clearer. The proportion of people whose earnings put them below the poverty level — without counting government benefits — declined by about one-third from 1950 to 1965.

All this was happening before the "war on poverty" went into effect — and all these trends reversed after it went into effect.

Guess who I am?

I’m going to set your house on fire and demand you live in it.

Then I’m going to automatically yell that some bullshit study said you wouldn’t move to another house and that you’re a fucking retard for wanting to live in anything other than a dumpster fire.

I’m you.
