Based Skycoin, they literally DGAF lol.

Check out Synth and Sudo's twitter, they're trolling the fuck out of that old drug addict McAfee now.

They're so confident in their product that they're happy to tell McAfee to go fuck himself when he tried to extort them.

That's also because you don't understand different consensus methods.

Skycoin has a set of full nodes for scalability while Obelisk is in development. Those full nodes ensure uptime because a wallet can connect to a server closest to them around the world. Those full nodes consense to the masternode.

This makes development updates easier on exchanges and other places. Once Obelisk is released, you'll have a fully decentralized method of consensus that is something to be excited about.

That plus some XRP features like self-selecting validators, there's no voting like actual DPoS. The consensus dev admits the Obelisk pipe dream is impossible, and has no sybil resistance. The whitepapers he showed me postulate that with a <15% malicious node set, you have no way of performing normal consensus. It essentially breaks down entirely with the equivalent of a minor DDoS.

>>13084979
>>13085036

I never bothered looking deep enough into it after the pic related conversation happened. I just ghosted Synth after this.

Quick rundown:
- Synth hired what seems to be a random single pajeet to do the entire algorithm for them. Synth does nothing.
- Neither Synth nor the dude who wrote the alleged Obelisk consensus method originally are helping him.
- He's starting from scratch to implement a different algo than what was originally shilled because what they wanted was impossible.
- Traditional PoS attacks are not solved, and in fact the proposed system is even weaker to Sybil attacks than normal PoS chains and doesn't defend against Long Range attacks. They're not solved because if they were they'd be a top coin overnight (noone has solved this for PoS).

To the guy's credit, he's working with what he's got and I feel bad for him. There's some more technical discussion after this where he links me some whitepapers, but none of them are written by Skycoin and are just abstract concepts that are only tangentially related to Skycoin. Skycoin hasn't produced an original paper themselves on Obelisk consensus. The botched together consensus will be literally nothing new, it's just a combination of Ripple validator set bullshit and Tendermint but weaker to traditional attacks.

TL;DR Obelisk is vaporware, they have nothing new and the proposed algo dies to any tiny network attack indefinitely.

To be honest I don't see why they even *need* Obelisk at all. It seems to be a "nice to have" but everything is working fine without it.

Maybe that's why there's no great rush to get it done?

Lots of coins run on masternodes. A masternode has some strengths compared to PoW / PoS (as well as some weaknesses).

Skywire and CX seem to be Skycoin's main products right now and they seem to work fine on the current system.

When Skycoin gets Obelisk finished that will be cool, but no reason to rush it IMHO. Best if they focus on their core apps.

I've been in skycoin for 2 years now. had 1200 SKY from back in the day, bag held my 450 SKY skyminer rebate, and continued to hold every skyminer reward from my official miner AND diy miner.

I have like 2.5k SKY now and im considering selling for the first time ever. i cant believe ive held through all of this, and im about to sell at the bottom.

skycoin wont even pump and dump again until the 25m supply is reached, in probably over a year. and whats stopping synth from exit scamming once he is finished selling 11m more skycoin otc? it has always been about money for him...considering his "skycoin interviews" that just contained 4 hours of ranting about bitcoins price.
