In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows —
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand."— The City's gone,—
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder,—and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

As a primer, you must understand the role for the ISDA:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Swaps_and_Derivatives_Association

Taken from Wiki:
"he International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA /ˈJzdə/) is a trade organization of participants in the market for over-the-counter derivatives. It is headquartered in New York City, and has created a standardized contract (the ISDA Master Agreement) to enter into derivatives transactions. In addition to legal and policy activities, ISDA manages FpML (Financial products Markup Language), an XML message standard for the OTC Derivatives industry. ISDA has more than 820 members in 57 countries; its membership consists of derivatives dealers, service providers and end users.["

There's multiple angles to read into the report published by the ISDA:
1. Riding off the back of the CFTC report on Smart Contracts published in November 2018 for the U.S., this signals that smart contracts will soon be adopted not only in the U.S. for the OTC derivatives markets, but the international markets as well (think $1.4 Quadrillion opportuunity).

Go back to the OceanProtocol video, sergey admits
-mainet will roll out without reputation or even that many nodes (just want to start feeding data)
-Freely admits, no idea how much people are willing to pay for decentralization. Derivative smart contracts doesn't mean multiple nodes will be necessarily used, they may end up using 1 single trusted and free nodes.
-Sergey says he doesn't know if intel sgx enclave will work in the long term. He kept saying " i was promised that it would work"

its not only what they will pay for decentralized oracles but ALSO what the data is worth.

LINK tokenomics is not just about fees and transactions. Its that the token collateralizes the data running through it. This small design is to keep node operator honest.

The data becomes so valuable along with the LINK within the node and forces everyone to be honest.

The idea of a contract creator picking only 1 node is nonsensical

>> No.12830632

The reason I say nonsensical is because it puts the smartcontract users at risk.

The more nodes the safer more secure the smartcontract.

Are you really going to have only one data source with an automated contract worth 2 million USD. Also, that no one is overseeing?

That doesn't make sense. Automation requires trustless data for execution.

>Are you ok with smartcontract taking off, but the link token never ever moons.

The price people are willing to pay for decentralization is only half of the picture, you also have to consider the quantity of people using chainlink in order to determine its price. Only one person willing to pay $1m is almost the same as 1m people willing to pay $1, the difference being the distribution of the payout to operators.

That being said, link is the pioneer of decentralised oracles, it would be pointless to speculate how much people would be willing to pay, given the context of the discussion.

>Because he's been selling it as a additional layer of secure CONFIDENTIAL way of doing smartcontracts... now it sounds like he's not so sure any more.

He still sounded confident in its added security, they literally discuss that for an SGX TEE to be compromised, it would have to be from a hardware issue on Intels part, which is considerably more difficult to exploit than if a TEE wasn't used.

The guy in the front row who was discussing this was talking purely semantics and trying to flex his opinions. The other guy in the front row just wanted to be part of the conversation, regardless if he was talking out of his ass, which is noted by Sergey when he chuckles at what he said.

>Without reputation, any smartcontract creators will only pick nodes that they know or "trust". At mainet launch, CL network, jesus christ of decentralized oracle network, will began providing data feed just like a centralized oracle service. You don't see the irony in this?

Given the limited amount of nodes relative to the number there will be upon future adoption, reputation isn't 100% necessary. In the beginning, people creating low value smart contracts will probably choose their nodes however they think fit, where as large value smart contracts will be limited to nodes which have enough colat to cover their transactions.

There is enough information surrounding link now for it to behave the same way even if there is no mainnet. On pure speculation. Combine it actually being used with previously displayed trading behaviour and we have a winner. But even without usage it has legs given how many connections there are.
