A company opens huge shorts on cigarette stocks and runs a massive smear campaign against smoking. Enough to convince the public to stop smoking.
Both providing a good service and profitable.

Dumdum thats what is always going on. Check cyanide medication scandal. "Someone" put cyanide pills in meds bottle and the companys stocks plummeted rockhard. Couple of people died. Hmm makes me wonder if someone shorted during that time.

Anti smoking campaigns drive up taxes and regulatory barriers which widen the moats of the existing big tobacco companies. Big tobacco is in favor of these things and in some cases pay for anti-smoking ads themselves. Smoking appeals to people who think the people in anti-smoking ads are faggots in the same way that smoking weed appeals to people who think public service announcements are cringe af.

Quite literally never going to happen.
What's going to convince people to stop? Are you gonna tell people that smoking causes cancer? Everyone already fucking knows that, and they smoke anyways. No one that currently smokes is going to quit because of some stupid "smear campaign" that you run

Why would they care? Smoking a cigarette is already facsimile to sucking a cock and everyone knows it.

>Tell everyone (honestly) that smoking makes your dick smaller and causes impotenece
>Suddenly everyone who smokes is extremely self-conscious of it
>If this becomes conventional wisdom, smoking will not be cool to the "rebellious" crowd because nothing that outs you as a dicklet can ever be cool
>Profit off the shorts, hopefully it's enough to cover the cost of your smear campaign

The government's anti-smoking campaigns can end smoking with one PSA that tells people about this in a catchy way. I am convinced that they do not because the tax revenue from cigarette sales is too great an incentive for them to actually try to stop smoking.
