I knew what BTC was in 2011. Saw it had great potential. Never got around to investing.

I knew what ETH was when it was only a few dollars. Never got around to investing.

I'm late to the party, by a lot, and I have *almost* no goddamn idea what I'm doing, but I'm ready to start building a portfolio. I've done some research, and I have a few questions:

1. What are some of the better hardware wallets that support BTC and altcoins? I've heard the Ledger Nano S and Trezor.
2. What are some good coins to invest in, long term; does the following portfolio sound at all competent?: I was thinking 40% BTC, 20% ETH, 20% Monero, 10% ETC and a 5% gamble on the trainwreck that is BCH, while using the remaining 5% (since smaller ICOs are going to be more volatile) as the equivalent of "pennystocks."
3. What's some good software to monitor crypto?
4. Any good material on learning to interpret data and figure out trends and what the father fucking hell everything means?

Pic unrelated.

just do 100% BTC; if BTC dominance tends to hover around 50% then investing in BTC-only is practically the same as investing in a weighted basket of shitcoins

So, I should invest less in BTC, then? Around 25%?

>Have you read bitcoins whitepaper
No.
>Have you researched what it was supposed to enable
> peer to peer electronic cash right
Yes
> why did the core developers centralise bitcoin and limit the blocksize
Wasn't that what led to the BCH split? I don't know why, no.
> what are bitcoin forks
Forks of the BTC blockchain with different goals "rules" behind how they operate
> be independent but learn what you can about bitcoin core BTC bitcoin cash BCH and bitcoin SV
From further reading it seems like I should use BTC as my main investment since it doesn't fall as far as altcoins
> dont invest all at once and figure out the best ratio for all of these things
Thank you
> how to safely download wallets and store private keys
Thank you
> dont invest all of your stack in one go dollar cost average
Can you explain "Dollar cost average"
> if anyone tells you someone is a scammer or something is a scam find out for yourself dont just take their word for it
Noted.

Bitcoin whitepaper is actually easier to read than you might at first think. It's also only around 8 pages long or so. You wont get all of it the first time, but you'll understand more and more with every read through.
It is the single most important thing to read in the crypto space, of course.

You missed the boat. Bitcoin will never recover. Put your money in 3% IRAs cause that's all you have left

I'm aware that BTC will never get back to its high. Not really what the post is about, but thanks.
