Consider this: Altcoin X that "is better than Bitcoin" in theory, and always in theory, because it's not time-tested for 10 years, comes out.

Would you or anyone with enough money to matter move their Bitcoin portfolio into this altcoin X because "it's better than Bitcoin" disregarding the fact that Bitcoin has been timetested for 10+years, has been throught all kind of attacks including USG trying to hardfork it and so on?

When you understand this, you will understand that you cannot outcompete Bitcoin unless you literally have a time-machine and release it before Bitcoin so your blockchain becomes the oldest one with the longest uptime, thus the most valuable store of value.

unlike bcash and other worthless forks, ethereum actually has a decent pathway to scaling because they use trees in an interesting way, meaning you only need to sync and verify a tiny part of each block to validate everything in it. sharding obviously makes this much easier, but even without it ethereum today can run with only a few gbs on a top of the line pc of 10 years ago

The only future growth is in smart contracts (including tokens) and stablecoins. Even for pure payments bitcoin is objectively inferior to stablecoins. In the future people are going to buy dai to buy drugs, not bitcoin. Bitcoin has no future.
