the top three coins, bitcoin, ethereum, and xrp, are all completely unique, which is interesting and makes sense. xrp though is clearly the weakest of the three, but ripple the company behind it could keep it around for longer than it would otherwise naturally be, which is a key factor people miss when looking only at tech. tech has never mattered, and if it did xrp would be nowhere, its ripple that gives xrp the illusion of being relevant, which is not a bad thing.

If there were actually a backdoor it would have been exposed years ago. Half the crypto community hates Ripple and would never pass up the opportunity to ruin them if it existed. And Ripple wouldn't even want this ability because of what it could do to the value of their XRP.

Hidden agreements with nodes is an even crazier conspiracy theory. But even assuming that's true, every node verifies every transaction, so honest nodes (maybe exchanges or wallet operators for example) can always stay on the legit blockchain even if the other 95% of nodes are malicious. XRP does not use PoW where you are forced to accept the longest chain.
