What exactly causes huge spikes in crypto?

Example. Xrp went from a few cents to 3 dollars and forty cents in jan 6, 2018.

Help me understand what signs to look for.

Real social media activity. Bots see it, they buy and the price pumps. The activity sees that are a lot of people looking into the coin so the probability that they buy after a pump is higher, I just don't know how the models are done but it's the gist of it

And maybe insider info but that is hard to find out. For examples if exchanges see a spike in users they can have their bots buy coins and still be able to sell them after they pump easily

For xrp it was asians in that run

Remember when cmc took the asian volume off and it crashed? Look for huge increase in volume in asia and arbitrage between jpy kwn to xrp, the usd price follows but with a lag
