>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

You mean as in it has started mildly? Chinese consumption drops, especially in the high end consumer market, and the housing market crashes in several countries do suggest this, yes.
Maybe whatever Powell says on wednesday results in more widespread acceptance that we are entering a recession period globally and that there will be a bear stock market. If he says "we're going ahead with rate hikes", its bearish. If he says he isn't, then that means he is afraid of a recession, which could also be bearish.

I know that feeling. It took me a really big hit to really get it in my head that I should never listen to that feeling.

The thing is, the loss is already real. How you need to think is like this: If you had the money you would get from selling your shares right now instead of having those shares, would you invest it in those shares, or do you think there are better ways to invest your money?

If you think there are better ways to invest your money, you should sell and invest them in those better ways.

>New Zealand and Australia have already moved to block the use of Huawei’s equipment as part of the 5G rollout citing similar concerns.

>In the UK, BT said in December it had removed Huawei equipment from parts of its network after the head of MI6 said it was time for the UK to decide whether it was “comfortable with Chinese ownership of these platforms”. Huawei has pledged to spend $2bn (£1.5bn) to alleviate those security concerns.

>Poland, where a Chinese employee of Huawei has been arrested on allegations of spying, has called on the European Union and Nato to decide whether to exclude Huawei from their markets.

>Even the Chinese firm’s sideline business in solar panels is under investigation. American politicians have claimed the firm’s panels “may pose a threat to our nation’s infrastructure.”

>Huawei has come under IP theft accusations before. US federal prosecutors are reportedly investigating allegations that Huawei stole trade secrets from US businesses.

depends on your employer, but most of the time there are a few employer-approved funds you can put it into. IRAs are comfier because you can invest in whatever you want in an IRA. But, IRAs have two downsides: smaller yearly contribution limits, and they lack the employer matching 401ks often have. 401k matching is literally free money.

>Why do people get shares of SQQQ instead of shorting SPY if you are so sure it's going down?

Accessibility. You don't need to have your account setup to short sell directly in order to buy inverse ETF. And it's generally the cheaper option if you're a retail small spec (which is everyone here). Day trading the VIX and short term holding inverse ETFs is a sound strategy for making gains in a bear market.

>> No.12582471

>>12582422
it's a matter of creating a taxable event. you want to avoid them for the most part so the company's profits can grow tax-free (until you sell). for example, company X gives a dividend instead of reinvesting in itself. that creates a taxable event on your behalf. company Y does not pay a dividend but rather reinvests in itself, or does a stock buy-back thus avoiding a taxable event for you, and now those profits/gains can grow tax-free, until you sell of course. it's not a deal breaker, but it's good to know when you've got time on your side and every penny helps boost your portfolio over the long haul.

Haha wouldn't it be funny if the Chinese made up a mass genocide that would be easy to falsify during a chaotic wartime period and had an arm of their religion operating in Canada so that criticizing the Chinese in any way became illegal and even noticing the things they do would be extremely taboo, allowing them to control Canada with impunity? Just a thought, haha.

Imagine how crazy it would be if Canada then pledged to be a Madagascar ally, while Madagascar had strict border policy, it would go so far as to even attack Canadian ships while pretending to be Madagascar's enemies in order to sicc their Canadian bulldog on them. And only Chinese were allowed into Madagascar too, so basically there's absolutely no benefit to the alliance if you're Canadian.

My plan if you will is to use the eventual windfall from AMRN, Fox-Dis Merger, and GE Spinoffs to cover my entire amount invested in the market while dumping the remainder into my other high divvy positions:

MSFT
T
DIS

I'll keep my GE, LGF.A and Comcast positions as a just in case thing; god forbid I sell my GE stake and then in 5 yrs it doubles in value or Comcast turning shit around or what have you. Lions Gate, well Its only a mater of time before they get bought. Be a shame to miss out on the Profit any buyout would generate. It will all be basically "free money" at that point anyway since I'd have replaced my whole investment amount.

I used to be pretty bullish on Disney but I came off it. I thought they would kick ass when Disney+ launched but then I realized they were going to operate Disney+ and Hulu simaltaneously and charge for both. I don't think that's going to draw anyone away from Netflix like a combined platform with all of their media would do. Also ESPN just keeps getting worse and worse. People on watch live events on there but they end up paying so much in broadcasting rights for them it's not enough to prop up their other failing programs the other 20 hours of the day.

Also fatigue has to start setting in by now with capeshit and niggerwars. I mean you will always had a large portion of autists that will go see every star wars and capeshit film but you will never recreate the hype it had back when it first got rebooted three or whatever years ago as more and more normal people check out.

I am however very bullish on their theme parks and cruise line. If they would spin that off into a separate company I would be all over it. But as it stands I think it will continue to be weighed down by its media operations like it has for the past 4 years and streaming will just be another platform they need to sink money in to compete.

Thanks for the input! I'm convinced Netflix has maybe 3 or 4 more years to hold on to it's cultural status as a streaming service. I think Disney's box office domination as well as it's endless library of media, especially in the near future with the Fox merger, gives it a pretty big advantage over Netflix. Having the ability to double dip on it's content library with theatrical releases and then the streaming services is great. I've heard rumors of Netflix considering the possibility of releasing certain films in theaters before bringing them to streaming. I'm not too sure about that, with the raising of subscription costs and an trying something Disney already as in place, they might sour a lot of their customers. Though it's good to hear a less optomistic viewpoint. Good luck anon, hopefully DIS makes us RICH
