To hot to fail edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, stop making the general with trips, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

If you make them liable for damages, then either everyone's electricity bills go up by like 500%, or they end up so financially devastated that they definitely wont be able to mitigate fires in 2019 and even more people die when it turns out prevention funds had to go towards funeral costs and home reconstruction.
California is the one at fault for letting these guys form a monopoly and then allowing people to ever think it was a good idea to live inside a fucking matchbox of a forest and then demand that their homes get electricity no matter what.

...you're still holding them? Did you not see the size of the candles before market close and during after hours? The shit was literally violently oscillating between $9.10 and $14.50 presumably due to the algos after it hit the first top. Its about to get dumped hard in the morning when people adjust price points due to lingering uncertainty over court ruled liabilities for the 2018 fires. You were supposed to sell today and buy back in at $7-$9 tomorrow.
Didnt you get the voicemail?

Used by a number of people, has a diehard core userbase, but user growth at this point is going to be hard (everyones already on Slack that would actually use it for work, besides students who are just being introduced), and its not going be able to be effectively monetized. Estasy inc is a nice buying op. It's kinda following the Amazon playbook. Assuming things continue to go well for the company the outlook is $400+ per in 5 yrs. (under $56 per atm). So kinda like getting in on Amazon in the early days. The payoff is massive.

But why buy Amazon when you can just buy potential "victims" stock cheaper and reap the nice divvy (if it pays one) while you wait for Amazon to strike or if you bought on a dip you can hold and sell on a high note and make profit.

Victims list:
Lions Gate - Media mergers all the rage now, they are cheap and they own starz channel. Got deals in place with Amazon already over content.

Target: Cheap, fat div (0.64), can sell on a high note (90 is highest) (67 atm) for nice profit.

Estasy inc - Cheap, massive payoff down the road if company does good. Buyout may be offered if they get so big Amazon or another big fish feel threatened.

So buy the victim stock now; get Amazon stock later when the buyout happens.

They thrived on being a low cost/high volume supplier and were able to do that through Walmart contracting out all their business to them. If this Walmart plant is a success (it will be, most grocers like Kroger, Publix, and Meijer have been bottling their own milk for decades due to the cost savings), they will put up plants all across the nation and DF will go under.

Oh, I didn't mean to suggest that. Weed stocks have been my primary sector for swing trades over the last two years. You just have to be defensive with them and keep in mind that any gains made can be completely retraced and then some at any time. The idea of going long and cost averaging over a period of years does not seem wise to me considering the way they move.

>mostly passive investors in the weed sector

I don't recommend the weed sector at all for a passive investment strategy. As for the ETFs, both MJ and the Canadian HMMJ are very volatile as well so you do have to keep an eye on them, use stop losses for god sakes, and don't buy in when most of the holdings on the ETF are over 60 on the daily RSI. And yes, I am well aware this means you could miss out on potentially 30%+ gains. It also means you won't get wrecked and wind up on r/weedstocks engaged in a bizarre stockholm syndrome relationship with Aphria stock.

However, HMMJ is a pretty good way to trade the dude weed if you're willing to employ some strategy about it. It pays a dividend while most (all?) individual weed stocks do not, aside from the secondary things on the ETF like Scott's Miracle Grow.

You should consciously abandon hindsight bias.
All you need to do is be able to ask yourself, "Given what I knew at the time, was this a good and rational decision to buy or sell?"
If it continues to run-up, well, then it ran-up. But that doesn't affect the rationality of your move. Given only the knowledge you have at the time of the event, would you regret it? If not, well, that makes your decision much easier.
I'd usually go into a tax rant here but I'll spare you.

Did anyone buy puts? That's gotta hurt. Anyway, I'm not liking what they wrote in their press release:
"...PG&E still faces extensive litigation, significant potential liabilities and a deteriorating financial situation, which was further impaired by the recent credit agency downgrades to below investment grade. Resolving the legal liabilities and financial challenges stemming from the 2017 and 2018 wildfires will be enormously complex and will require us to address multiple stakeholder interests, including thousands of wildfire victims and others who have already made claims and likely thousands of others we expect to make claims."

Also, apparently my limit order for GALT didn't go through yesterday, that's what I get for trying robinhood on /biz/'s advice. I had to manually buy it with a market order today at 4.53.

I also bought 30 bucks worth of bitcoin with some money I had left over in the account for some more mindless gambling.

it got rejected once and today's pump seemed very strange. I don't trust it. news in general about things that affect the global economy except employment rates in the US are bearish. China's QE indicates they're trying to soften a very serious problem and the FED's interest rate raising and asset selloff indicates they're trying to pop the stock the stock market bubble.
oh yeah and of course, the stock market is still in a bubble. average price/earnings of stocks are very high. all the government bonds the fed is selling seems get gobbled up.

I think the only chance of a trend breakthrough is through a conspiracy agreement between massive capital powers that they are going to reinflate the bubble.

I guess give resistance a couple attempts, if not enough buy interest is there to break through and push upwards, do some shorting, see what kind of reaction that gets, etc. Short interest increases significantly on every rejection and longs see the writing on the wall as well.

I don't think the violent sell offs are over yet.
