I feel for the gold meme, but I don't know which way to go.

Everyone on plebbit says sovereign coins are the best way to invest a they have the lowest premiums and
>muh collectors
will make it easy and fast to liquidate. UK fag btw.

On the other hand, pure 1oz Britannias (or AGEs, or whatever) for some reason appeal to me more, even though I know I'm going to be paying a higher premium.

Am I literally just paying more for muh collector status, and the fact that its 999.9 gold, or should I just stop being a fag and buy a sovereign (something like 91.6 fineness)?

I'm not looking to trade it any time soon, and I'm not looking to play the markets with it. I just want an insurance against inflation and quantitative easing bullshit.

Also not gonna buy bars as they are even harder to liquidate.

for the uk something like bullionvault is okay in small cash terms, you can pay a storage fee or sell it back to them if you really want to hold the shiny rocks in your hands for a fee.

>> No.12399729

Definitely want to hold the shiny rocks in my hand, the whole reason I'm buying gold is because it's historically been a store of value against bankers/state manipulation of fiat currency.

I don't trust 'em.

bullion by post

but britannias, you don't pay any capital gains tax on them

Wait, is it possible to buy Britannias with BTC and then sell them without paying any tax at all?

>> No.12400062

I don't think you can by them with btc, you can in the us at goldsilver . com but not in the UK. But yeah, the other bit is 100% correct, gains on uk minted bullion coins is 100% tax free.

I'm in the UK though so would they ship me a Britannia from US?

£1069 for a single ounce if you pay btc, cheapest is £1065.

Bullionbypost today is £1055 for a single ounce, cheapest is £1038, but thats on a million pounds worth

The premium difference is negligible. Typically, depending on the dealer, you will pay between 3% and 5% over spot to receive your coin in the form of a Sovereign or Britannia. Bars have a slightly similar premium but can be much harder to resell. Using Bullion By Post for examples, since they're a highly liquid dealer:

Current spot price £1009.51

A sovereign contains 7.322 grams of gold - £250.80 (or £1065 per ounce)
A britannia contains 31.103 grams of gold - £1055

ratio of britannia:sovereign = 4.24788

So actually, the Britannia is the slightly better purchase right now on that site. Others will vary. Do what you want, anon. Just don't get sucked into buying numismatic coins to masturbate over like a filthy kike, as they DO have hefty premiums. Bullion is bullion.

Fractional gold coins are a good start to stacking. If you don't have the appetite or funds for whole troy oz. of gold you can purchase by 1/10, 1/4, or 1/2 oz.

British sovereigns are never a bad deal and are more durable in 22 kt alloy. Plus they have a history of use in circulation worldwide (in the past, of course) as well as being issued to SAS operatives in war zones.

The three bullion coin programs that issue .9999 fine gold are the Canadian Maple Leaf, UK Britannia, and the Australian Gold Nugget (notice a pattern here? All parts of the former British Empire...).

The US Mint didn't have a 24 kt gold coin until they issued the American Buffalo in 2006. Their mainline bullion series is the Gold Eagle, but those coins are .916 with silver added alongside the traditional copper so it has a slightly greenish tint.

As for premiums, expect it to be added to the spot price of the day for gold, usually 3-7% depending on the weight of the coin.

If you're trying to liquidate gold, definitely stick to coins as bars have to be assayed for authenticity. Also, certain parts of the world have a preference for 24 kt gold, such as China; they don't have a high regard for American Eagles and prefer the purity of Canadian Maple Leafs.

Was waiting for someone to point out that AGEs aren’t pure gold, they have copper and some silver mixed in for durability. Pure gold scratches and dents really easy, an alloy is stronger

I'm from the UK, so I think BullionByPost is my best bet.

Last time I checked, the prices were as follows:
1oz - ~£1037
1/2oz +£44 (for x2)
1/4oz +£83 (for x4)
1/10oz +£90 (for x10)

if you dont have enough money to buy 1oz easily you dont have enough to buy gold. invest in yourself to get skills or whatever else you need to make enough money so that you can afford 1oz like it's nothing. retard plebs

>> No.12404605

I do have enough to do it comfortably (just about), but I'm worried about liquidity with it being £1000+ and am wondering about fractions. Might be harder to sell 1oz if I need to, than it would be 1/4 or a sovereign. But then you pay a higher premium of fractionals anyway.

Definitely won't be difficult to move 1oz coins, vastly more of those are minted than the smaller denominations. Just get sovereigns if you want coins under 1oz.
