>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Food stock Recap--

The December 19 interest rate decision will be the biggest one of the year, and the main catalysts in whether or not food stocks take another leg down during 2019 first half. The technical are set up for reversal so this would be the big golden bull
GIS should be able to double bottom here (down from blue buffalo acquisition 8bil debt)

CAG can easily go lower, took on the same 8bil debt from the pinnacle foods acquisition

KHC is down from making lousy acquisitions and also stagnating the dividend for the first time

Personally I believe BGS foods is what large specs are anticipating to continue rising their dividend, and they have a history of stellar acquisitions

GIS, Colgate, and SJM are the best buys because they hold the main Petfood and petcare marketshare, something large specs havent caught onto yet

Lets have a lesson on why SPYD is objectively the best ETF you can hold. Currently it yields 4%, so using our big brains, that's 1% per quarter.
Using DRIP, begin by holding exactly 25 shares (or in increments thereof)
I'm currently 22, so lets say I want to live a NEET life at 40. Right now that's 72 quarters away.
Using a basic excel spreadsheet and the power of compound interest, you end up with 51.71 shares of SPYD. Truly amazing.

I just want to remind the Peons of 2005
2005 things were looking bad for the economy. Flat retail sales, poor industrial production. Things that are not relevant to today

In 2005 december the yield curve first inverted and remained flat. The market rallies a full year even with the FED increasing rates much harder than they do today

2006 december, a full year later, the real inversion happened. The market rallied another FULL YEAR something like 30% -40% before it rolled over in approximately January of 2008. This is because fed slows rates in reaction to inversions

Mmmm.

The weaker, easier to refute, bits of the short attack report are falling apart pretty quick already. Claim that Sensi shop in Jamaica doesn't exist was proven false; a local posted a picture of the entrance to the place on plebbit today. It seems the short found the right building, looked for the wrong unit #, or something, wrote in article the unit didn't exist, no Sensi. Took a photo of the side of the building opposite the entrance as "proof" of non-existence.

Allegation that Aphria sells poor quality, moldy, bug infested weed had no citation in the article and of course no consumer reported issues of any such thing. No my knowledge the only two LPs with confirmed sold weed containing mold are Redecan (do not invest in these guys) and one case for Canntrust (these guys seem okay).

Short attack piece gives a number of $280m purchase price for the latin american acquisitions. This was refuted instantly as they based their number on the wrong share price. Actual cost with correct SP was $190.

I can't believe i'm writing posts in support of Aphria. I think they suck and I don't trade them. Thing is, it does not look to me like they are a negligent/fraudulent outfit. All i'm seeing here is a couple of sleazeball shorts on an S&D campaign.

1. Dump more into my VFORX fund
2. Dump more into my SWPPX fund
3. Buy more NVAX shares
4. Buy more GE shares
5. Buy more Armn on the dip
6. Buy more CTL on the dip

Heiny is the like, the middle point of all alcohol stocks

I never traded DEO, because it always under performed the other alcohol stocks, but its doing better now assuming zoomers are asking older people for swedka vodka or whatever

also if Heiny closes the month higher than right now its very bullish

The MAIN POINT, is that December 19th is most important for all these stocks because it will show the Feds dovishness and be the main catalyst

Looks like we're finally starting to see some warnings about stagflation.

>“We’ve got a very narrow path for the bull,” Paulsen said. “People aren’t talking about it, but in some sense the primary problem is stagflation. It’s a problem that you’ve got people worried about too hot and too cold at the same time.”
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-stocks/futures-fall-as-trading-resumes-trade-growth-worries-linger-idUSKBN1O42UL

>"Higher metals prices because of import tariffs continue to be a pain point for manufacturers and construction firms," the Cleveland Fed bank said.

>"There were a number of reports of tariffs leading to higher prices further down the supply chain," including to retailers.

>And several regions reported businesses were beginning to raise prices as their costs increase.

>"Looking ahead six months, manufacturing firms continued to anticipate higher prices, with nearly 60 percent of the firms expecting increases in prices paid and in prices received for their own goods," the Philadelphia Fed said.

>At the same time, businesses nationwide say they are having trouble filling open positions, which in some cases has forced them to postpone expansion plans.

>The Chicago Fed cites the growing problem of keeping existing workers.

>"A number of contacts said that they had been 'ghosted,' a situation in which a worker stops coming to work without notice and then is impossible to contact."

>Meanwhile, four of the 12 Fed districts reported slow or virtually no growth in October and November. If that pattern spreads, the central bank could be faced with trying to control rising prices amid slowing growth.
https://news.yahoo.com/us-business-optimism-wanes-over-tariffs-rate-hikes-205410472.html

This is exactly what I've been predicting for months.Tight labor market + tariff costs = profits being squeezed = inflation and downturn.

And even now that they negotiated at G20, people are still uncertain, so they are losing hope. The economy can only go on like this for so long. There are certainly speculative bubbles in China rn but alot of their problems stems from the fact that as they become more and more developed they can no longer just rely on just providing capital to their massive labor force to create growth. Eventually they'll have to realize a new normal of about 2-4% GDP growth, and there will be lots of growing pains because a lot of people were banking on the 6-8% days lasting forever. And none of that is even considering if they'll manage to effectively be able to create cutting edge innovation and research necessary, or if they'll even be able to effectively commercialize that.

The problem of the Maoist and Deng era was that despite having great research institutions all of it was too experimental and esoteric to actually be used in production.

I'd worked in the financial sector and 'd been to Dubai, Brussels, Shanghai, Singapore and New York for extended work trips.
I even did IPO work for quite a few of them.
So I can say this with confidence, every economy is a house of cards without any strong fundamentals, well except for China and Japan.

The US is still a powerhouse but only as long as countries around the world fall in-line.
Your entire ecosystem is crumbling under unsustainable corporate/government debt and inadequate savings and heavily at-risk of a systemic event (I.E Interest rate hikes).
Only the SWIFT is preserving the value of the US dollar.

This even the World Bank agrees with.
In addition, no retard of a head-of-state would voluntarily cripple their country to bolster the US economy & USD when there are no tangible benefits that the US can offer.
And there are no benefits that the US are willing to concede.

If you look'd at the total GDP growth instead of percentages, you would see that total GDP growth is still far greater than in previous years.
Hell, even a 4-to-5% growth is a positive indicator

Here's an interesting stock to check out.

KEWL. It owns 167k acres of timberlands in Michigan plus 400k acres in mineral rights. The people running the company were basically complete retards and did everything in their power to remain entrenched and collect their salaries. The people were recently ousted by Cornwall Capital.

The entire crux of the thesis is the company is trading far below the fair value of the rights that come with the land. An appraisal in January 2016 found that the timber lands alone were worth $901/acre, wiht 87% of that value coming from the timber rights itself, the remaining coming from land with higher and better uses. This translated into about $150 million in total value at the time. Timber however has increased in price about 20% since then, taking this into consideration, the timber lands are probably worth at least $993/acre net of debt. The company currently trades at about $610 an acre.

Keep in mind, this is before the 400,000 acres in mineral rights this company owns.

What do you cunts think? Seems like a slam dunk now that it has management that knows what it's doing.

Oh fuck I think they are exploding and dragging a few people down with them a bit. I expect to see China implode within the next 20 years. I was reading an article about them doing shady shit like building empty cities to boost GDP. Chinese equivalent to digging up and burying trash that people use to show how goofy Keynesian economics is.

You can short it directly by buying shares of things like SDS for example. You could short sell individual stocks, which is riskier. You can also look for defensive stocks that will perform well in a recession like Dollar General. Safe assets will also do better than usual since there will be high demand for them, such as treasury bonds.

In terms of absolute numbers, yes, they will almost certainly be the biggest economy in the world. But that doesn't mean that the communist party and Xi will survive in their current state, or that their won't be problems down the road.

Well there are good reasons to be building that stuff, people need housing and urbanization is still on going. The issue is that by the time they actually fill up these cities much of the investors will probably be bust.

>> No.12023415

>>12023399
That was just an example, but the gist is that they are doing things like that all over to give deceptively inflated economic numbers. From what the article said the population was the excuse, but the amount of housing they were building was completely unrealistic all things considered.

Sometimes shit is just easier just to pick a fund/etf or two plus a few stocks and be done with it. You get your diversification/growth with the two funds/etfs. Your stocks can offer you dividends and the possibility of short/long term massive gains and profit. So you get the total package with the minimum of fuss and hassle. Yeah it's tempting to jump on some hot stock but you need to resist. That hot stock could crash and burn on a dime, taking your investment money with it.
