Faberge edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Well since the old thread died as a 28 yo boomer who owns 0 stocks but has some money to play with, should I start an account on vanguard and start putting 1k a month ito an index fund like VOO for comfy long term gains? no point in timing the market. just get in but don't throw all your money in it at once. add in a set amount every week/two weeks/month or whatever your schedule is, add in about the same each time you invest, and do it over the long term.

if you think a bear market is imminent (i.e. inverse in the long and short term treasury rates happen) you can always hold some extra money in savings that can be deployed.

capitalism breaks down far before technology deals with scarcity. As profit rates get lower and lower it starts to break down as an engine for growth, and at the same time that infusions of debt through monetary and fiscal policy do less and less to put growth back on track during recessions. Eventually, people will need to look to other ways to have consistent growth, and I doubt capitalism would be able to survive as it begins to fail to deliver the goods.

Mixed day today for me. TerrAscend hit circuit breaker on heavy buy pressure this morning. There was a news release about their restructuring to enter the US market earlier but i'm not sure i understand why that was enough to rocket so hard. Anyway, it has settled down now. Circuit breaker price only lasted a few minutes so i wasn't able to grab profit on that. I believe it will trend upwards in coming days regardless. Hovering around +15% now.

OGI down some but still in continuation range for bullish trend.

Entered position in Curaleaf on the low earlier.

Venezuela's public sector is smaller than the US's and there's still plenty of private ownership. If Venezuela's troubles were due to socialism, then why is cuba doing so much better than them atm? Cuba which has far less markets and private ownership, and has been embargoed by the US for decades, and yet in spite of that is the only country to meet the WWF's sustainable development standard.

It's almost like Venezuela has its own distinct economic problems or something. Almost like they were a country with a large population entirely dependent on a corrupt and inefficient oil sector for their standard of living.

Either way, I'm not terribly afraid of communism, in that it's too busy making sure all the niggers and spics are happy to accomplish anything, but corporate rule with a commie flag is just as terrible, and I'm very sick of the West's liberals using Stalin as an inspiration.

The stock is trading at 3X EV/EBITDA, of course the years ahead will be more difficult but the division they sold off was what was destroying their earnings (impairment of goodwill for mostly for tax reasons the cash losses werent much). In the future their balance sheet will be healthier and they basically sold off 10% of their revenues (with thin margins) for >50% of the stock price.

Marx was impressed by Capitalism's ability to constantly revolutionize itself and to make production more efficient. However, in doing this, it simultaneously prevents normal people from enjoying these productivity gains.

Let's say automation makes a bunch of work obsolete, the capitalist solution is not to have every body work less, but to make a bunch of people unemployed while the rest work just as hard as before.

This is extremely short sighted thinking. Your pay should ideally be based on how much you work. Why should someone who works 10 hours be paid the same as someone who works 40?
Do you even know how incentives work?
How is it fair for one worker to put in all the effort, and other less effective workers get the same effort? Why would the better worker be motivated to work as well as he can?

...anon, that has literally nothing to do with what we're talking about. The communist demand when people are laid off due to automation is to decrease the hours in the work week. I don't see any reason why that would change pay ratios between people.

As for universal income, people who have enough money to know they are going to have their bare minimum needs met generally still work because there are other things they want in life.

It’s not the major curve inversion that investors watch for — the 2-year note holding a higher yield than the 10-year note, which has preceded every U.S. recession since World War II — but it portends that the market is headed in that direction, analysts told Yahoo Finance.

The problem is that the markets been on a bullrun for 10 years now. In 2008, the S&P was 770. Today it is 2784. You are a brainlet if you are not at least re-evaluating your portfolio. Times like these its good to be 25% cash. Personally I'm ganna go 25% silver

>The average Bull Market period lasted 9.1 years with an average cumulative total return of 480%. The average Bear Market period lasted 1.4 years with an average cumulative loss of -41%.

This bullrun has been precisely 9.1 years now and the return is 350%. there is little upside at this point and much more downside

Last I checked Americans are still ruled by political dynasties, which, even being uncharitable, largely did not occur in communist countries.

>>11995168
Was referring to the revolutions. Although, if you're looking for a system that does that, the closest that's come since the industrial revolution is the paris commune.

Americans have the added benefits of just exploiting other countries if need be, Venezuelans, elite or not, have no such luxury.

As for the tripcode, I just use it to identify myself as a commie

How can you be a communist when know stuff like that? The competition in capitalism causes corporations to invest more and more, while earning less and less, untill we reach peak effiency and it is no longer profitable to invest. By then the corporations will be literal charity organisations.

How can you think it is preferable to have an inefficient monopoly (communism)?

>> No.11995827

>>11995684
lol, you honestly think corporations will just /willingly/ become charities? All they'll do is just pull increasingly desperate stuff to turn a profit. They are legally obligated to create shareholder value. You want them to act as "charities" or have production coordinated by something other than profit, then you want socialism.

No, you just miss the elites completely, create NEW political dynasties, and then direct the angry mob to kill kulaks, or middle-class white people if we want to be modern about it, in order to hopefully get them off your backs.

I will give Stalin some credit though. At least he wasn't a faglover.

>or have production coordinated by something other than profit
production has to be coordinated by profit to be efficient

>you honestly think corporations will just /willingly/ become charities
It will be done through the very nature of capitalism, their charity will consist in prices being as low as they can possibly be - thereby benefiting the general population. Scarcity problem has its solution in capitalism.

The only thing they might do outside of that is use the government (or become the government) in order to have monopolies/cartells.

brainlet here

For long term investing (NOT options, scalping, margin, etc.), why do people buy ETF shares instead of just buying the companies in it manually and skipping the management fee? Is it laziness? it literally takes 20 minutes.

>> No.11995986

>>11995956
Because the incredibly smart managers of the ETF changes its contents over time to maximize profit, and you would have to do that yourself if it wasn't for them. What is more important? you time or your money?

Also, last I checked, Stalin's kiddies didn't become leaders of the USSR.

>>11995946
>production has to be coordinated by profit to be efficient
That coordination is becoming increasingly irrational as the rate of profit falls. Investors seek out riskier and riskier investments as they try to find keep their returns stable. This means bigger and bigger bubbles, more cut corners in production, and greater pressure for exploitation.

Cost based pricing is nothing new, anon. But so long as profits exist, there will always be an extra percent tacked on to the actual cost.
