I just want to make enough money to afford a trip to space with my dad. If I make $3 million from LINK, and the tickets will cost $3 million, then I'll spend every cent on them.

Waste of $$? Compared to what? We're all just incomprehensible specks of matter in an inconceivably large universe. I want to look down on the earth and finally understand that politics, money, wealth, and social status are all just human constructs that have absolutely no effect on the universe around us. I want to see how meaningless all of these wars and arguments truly are.

I go to my favorite neapolitan basket dancing board for that. If you can see that now, what do you expect to have click up there? That said space sounds cool and I hope you get to go, I look forward to your answer. I cant believe people in this thread are unironically fudding space. The absolute state

That's what I expect to click. Sure, I know these things now, but I also know that it is impossible to comprehend unless my eyes can see the earth dangling in void. I believe space exploration is the future of our species. Even if travelling to new galaxies or colonizing planets isn't ever feasible, the research and resources we can gather from our own solar system will be invaluable in advancing our knowledge.

Neat, thanks for that. I wonder if the feeling of wanting to protect the earth is an almost evolutionary one; survival instincts telling you what to protect as you begin to explore. I find it weirdly comforting that humans could all leave this planet at the same time, yet most will feel an urge to protect it still once looking down upon it. Space exploration isnt exciting and happy without knowing that earth will be there to come back to.

Thats really cool. I wonder if seeing the earth with my own eyes floating out there will make me realize how much i hate the jews. Maybe it will fuel a hidden desire to protect the earth from jews through extermination.

Just look at this picture. This picture was taken by Voyager 1 in 1990. The stripes are a product of sunlight hitting the camera lense, but if you look closely near the bottom right, there is a bright dot. That dot is the earth. It's so small and insignificant, yet it's the only place that we know. We need to get out there and explore. Humans have always been pioneers of the unknown.

Beautiful. Its like this planet was meant to be seen from afar. A beacon of life.
Should the concept of money exist in space? Started thinking about this when I started to worry that nexus earth or other satellite supported chains could be somewhat dangerous for space exploration if successful, but it's more of a philosophical question. I don't necessarily want the first space colonies to be military bases (if they already aren't) or profit seeking ventures, but it may make things happen quicker as well. I'm torn.

If things are done right, there will be so many resources available that it would be arbitrary to pay for any of them. However, I believe some sort of currency will have to be used in order to compensate other humans for services. The real answer though: No idea. Obviously we're talking hypotheticals at this point, and assuming that humans have colonized the solar system to a point where cross-planetary form of economy and trade could exist.

The common man will not be undertaking any colonization missions any time soon. Instead, these missions are going to be accomplished by professionals, the smartest and bravest humans on this earth. They will have no form of money or economics while they are out there.

Based. I think as long as oxygen never becomes a primary currency, we'll all be alright.

Our goal should be to eventually leave this planet. But not in shambles, in livable and good condition. At this very moment, that goal is absolutely impossible to accomplish. However, we can start taking the first steps. Our primary goal at this very moment should be saving our current world, and begin thoroughly researching our solar system. We can use that knowledge to advance technology and help earth.

Money is a generalization of the power to improve your situation as you will. As the number of potential things a group of people could use for that end increases, the more abstract and non-specific their money has to be in order to be 'liquid enough' to satisfy them.
Early on, space explorers will have no need for general money because their needs will be relatively few (survive, catalogue new planet, create future survivability ie. food stores, shelter, weapons, etc). For situations like this, the best currency is 'helping eachother meet basic needs,' so commerce will be at most barter until the new civilization creates enough wealth to have survivability on lockdown and goods become more diverse.
This is assuming that human psychology and 'the individual' are more or less the same as they have been on earth, which I hope is the case.

I'm talking out of my ass, but if we were at the point that we could colonize another celestial body, I'd imagine we'd have the means to convert another abundant resource into oxygen.
