Jim Cramer is a timeless contrarian indicator edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

It all depends on how earnings go. They've already gone up due to selling the mobile division; if they shit the bed tomorrow, which I'm personally hoping for, then things will look grim for them.

That being said, I bought a small call earlier today, anticipating they would go up before earnings. I plan to sell it early tomorrow, unless they start skyrocketing again, in which case I'll hold onto it to mitigate losses.

Yeah, I don't have faith in my ability to do minor due diligence for 20 years.
I'd much rather just throw it all in an index like SPY that I'll probably not even be able to beat and then I'll be able to do even less due diligence.

calendar-bro would add things to the calendar that people in the thread suggested, it had everything, earnings, pharma FDA decisions, stock split days, new CEO coming or going, Fed speech days, elections that may effect stock xyz, days of SEC announcements, if someone mentioned it in a general, then it would be on there within a day

it was not only informative for the actual important dates (and being aware of their impact on stocks before and after), but to see what various people in the general were focusing on, and get an insight into the plans of the groupthink (entertaining for both observing real market trends, and smugposting at retards)

all in one internet link, it was magical and useful

you could just keep that tab open permanently to the left of whatever tab the current general was on, instead of scouting the OP for a dozen links to open

New entry for today: TerrAscend.

OGI may have broken bullish today, will see tomorrow for follow through. Quinsam Capital still ranging but coming up on a golden cross (50 cross above 200 MA) in about a week or so if current trend stays the same. Planet 13 may also have broken out of descending trend today.

Because it’s all in the context of Japanese society that tall white guys are worth anything. Don’t get it twisted, you’re just a toy/status symbol, they won’t be taking you home to mom n dad or thinking about building a family with you. You are literally ranked and valued by your “rare” attributes ( tall, blonde, green eyes). It’s a weird form of sexual racism that was both really hot and kind of annoying.

Ok same dude from last thread, I asked 100k in 20 dividend stocks or 100k on SPY

I got answers ranging from leveraged ETF (bad idea if no deal this weekend) to all in SPY to part SPY part div stocks, and finally some growth stocks and safe plays.

I'm thinking 5k a pop of a KO or JNJ would do me little good over the span of 10 years. If I'm regularly contributing to this stack, all 20 picks have to be good or I get rekt on growth. If I go 15 growth stocks and 5 div, I could get rekt on something stupid like tariffs or raising the rates

My guess is the best option is to put most of it into SPY and play 20-30k on leaps options. Thoughts?

If you see some trash stock with that restriction on it you don't want to touch it other than for a day trade. Stocks that get slapped with this designation are flagrant p&d's with some unsubtle insider trading history for good measure. The reason to avoid isn't the pump/dump tendency, lots of legitimate small and medium cap stocks have that, it's the risk of SEC halt, investigation, and de-list. You have little recourse if a stock you hold gets the halt and delist.

Let's play a game frens. Name your favorite one or two stocks you are holding and why. I go first.

My favorite stocks I am holding are CY and NRZ. NRZ is cool because it is one of the only REITs that is holding a shit ton of mortgage servicing rights. CY is neato because they are a pretty well insulated semi conductor. They have their hands in normal semi shit, USB-C, and semis for cars. They've been enacting a plan to increase the amount of semis they put in each car, rather than increasing their total market share. They've also been growing their IOT division.

Well, you can increase and decrease your leverage by switching between SPY, SSO, SPXL...
I don't think any pick should necessarily be a loser unless it's a sinking ship like GE or if you get meme'd by a penny stock like DRYS or HMNY.

What are some of the picks that you've made that you consider losers?

Tetra BioPharma maybe. I have traded it three times for good profit over the last year. They do weed derivative med research. It's the only company besides GW Pharma that is far along in clinical trials (phase 3 or beyond on at least two meds). Tetra is more sexy than GW as it is still a penny stock. Oh, there's also dollar cost averaging. I don't buy into my large positions all at once. I'll have some cash lying around or have cash lying in SPY, then on a very red day for SPY, I'll set it for something that lost even more cash / is more volatile (like NFLX, AMD, FNGU, or even just SPXL)

You should also try to wait for a good entry point (like buying on red days). But it can be hard to tell sometimes whether something is just a retrace or a falling knife.

However, come to any Canadian university campus on a cold winter day and you will see a minimum of five Canada Goose coats in the span of a 30 minute walk.

Do not buy GOOS right now. It's about to retrace off a high. Buy puts or short it if anything.

VTGN is making a drug called AV-101 to treat depression and neuropathic pain
AV-101 acts on the same neurological pathway in the same way as ketamine (they're both NMDA antagonists), and there's significant scientific literature, as well as increasing use in clinical settings, supporting the efficacy of ketamine in treating both of those things
The advantages AV-101 has over ketamine is that it's orally bioavailable (you can take it as pills instead of having to inject it), which makes it a lot more likely for doctors to prescribe it, and it has fewer long-term side effects and safety concerns than ketamine
Its performance in clinical trials and the fact that it's been fast tracked by the FDA twice indicate that it's a promising drug that can potentially solve the problems of a drug that's been proven to be very effective but has several disadvantages hindering its adoption as a more widespread means of treatment

It's a small-cap biotech stock, so it's naturally very volatile and will dip and rise wildly on relatively low volume, in addition to being vulnerable to short term manipulation
Ultimately, the winning strategy is to be patient and hold as long as the fundamentals are there

5% dividend is good, but if the dividend exceeds the average DRIP growth of SPY, there's a reason why: the institutional investors view the dividend as unsustainable.

Some kids, particularly inner-city schools, struggle to just make it through algebra. These same children will probably never do the kind of shit we do in this thread and maybe a lucky few may actually open a 401k.

A lot of it is. Particularly those crypto threads where people just draw random fucking trendlines.
>any reads or evidence to suggest otherwise?
That's why I recommend thepatternsite.com, it's all statistically backed.

The best TA candlestick patterns only get accuracies up to about 65% or 70% and they're pretty rare.
Some TA indicators like Bollinger bands are such shit that you actually have to inverse how they're intuitively supposed to work to get accuracy improvements out of it.

TA is somewhat accurate in the short term and in the absence of fundamental catalysts (something about the actual company changing) but pointless in the long term because it can't predict how an actual company will change
TA is using the movement of a stock's price to speculate on how its price will move in the future
A stock's price moves when people buy or sell shares of that company's stock
Ultimately, short term fluctuations are predictable to some degree because human psychology is predictable
You can learn a decent bit about TA just by watching youtube videos and reading Investopedia articles
Also, the google drive mentioned in the OP's booklists has some books on TA

It's the opposite of a "split" which you may have heard of AAPL doing in the 90s or early 2000s.
When a ticker hits penny stock status, it'll sometimes do a R/S in order to avoid getting delisted (HMNY did this over the summer).

It's not (entirely), but you have to understand that TA in part works because EVERYONE uses it to some degree or another on the stock market. Basic stuff like moving averages, how to draw trend lines, support/resistance identification, RSI for overbought/oversold conditions. You won't get far trading stocks if you don't understand why things happen when they do, why traders often pile on or mass sell at specific times without any catalyst or material change from the actual company. The TA done for Buffet memester long hodlers is a little different but not by much; your scope is just longer.

I didn't know much about technical analysis at the time. Even after studying it a little bit I know I don't know enough about it to really speculate. The most I really know is how to identify lines of support and resistance. Basically I made big bets for good earnings reports on some pot stocks. Funny thing is, one of the stocks even had a good earnings report but the stock still plunged. The other one had a mediocre report but that stock plunged as well. I bought at the top of a speculative bubble and paid the price. I probably won't see gains on those stocks for another year or so but I'm not too worried about it since I don't have a lot invested and it's been a valuable learning experience worth more than the 40 dollars in losses. Plus it's helped me better identify when a stock is overvalued.

I think support and resistance levels follow your logic, but a lot of TA patterns are broken or become much less reliable through mass exploitation. I think this is described by the efficient markets hypothesis.
There's a quote somewhere that a pattern discovered by a quant / algorithmic trader usually disappears within 6 months. So, that's why quants try to keep the patterns that they discover to themselves.

I just left a girl at a bar last night because she didn't buy me a drink, she didn't buy me a drink because i didn't want to give her a kiss. She was supposed to buy drinks because I bought dinner. She only bought a me a beer and a shot then didn't want to get me another when i refused to kiss her.. so i left her there. then she went off telling me how i'm a prick...

Am I though? am I a prick? the deal was I buy dinner she buys drinks at the bar.. she didn't follow through so i figured she didn't need a ride home. Thats pretty normal.. r-right?
