>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Coke, for sure. Coca-Cola, the drink, might be falling out of popularity, but the company has thoroughly diversified.
Don't they also own Powerade or Gatorade? It'll be easier to find people that drink that shit than coke.

No calories and no artificial sweeteners. If it actually is a hot seller, and has a good price point, National Beverage Company has probably hit a home run.

NBC stock is at a $4B market cap, so a new household name can really move the SP. KO is extremely heavy, taking massive moves to really change the valuations. Never heard of this company, do they have international operations?
On another note, If anyone is interested in marijuana extraction companies, keep an eye on Halo Labs. Not saying buy at current price, but have a look and set up some low bids. A news release about $48M usd contracts on a $38M usd market cap company is going to be out by the end of the month, mentioning the California extraction plant opening which leads the catalyst. Just a small play to make some cash by the end of the month possibly.

Investing in an asset manager is different from using one. Also, I find it very interesting that asset managers would have a dividend... People using the asset manager are literally having an expense on those managed assets to fuel that dividend.

>Amazon will begin selling drugs online in the next 20 years. Long Bezos
Dude, the pharmaceutical distributors are so spooked about that happening.
They struck some kind of deal with JPM and some other company to handle something like their own employees' health insurance.
The news of that fucked with Cardinal Health (CAH), Express Scripts (ESRX), maybe CVS and Walgreens.
It was just a rumour that Amazon was putting a foot into that industry though.

Bezos totally is far from done with fucking retailers though. Check out the Amazon Go stores if you haven't already done so -- no cashiers. I think the goal is fully autonomous convenience stores. You just scan some code on an app to get in, and then, computer vision shit watches you walk around the store picking shit up. When you're done, you just walk out the door and it charges you -- no check out process.

Walmart has started up this thing called Walmart Labs. I've heard that they pay software engineers better than Google does. I have no idea what they're trying to do with it though.

Basically I have identified the exact moment when a large institutional buyer buys their shares each month.

Well, that's interesting. Maybe they have a phaux-sports drinks segment (Powerade) and a real sports drinks segment (Body Armor) since Gatorade and Powerade aren't actually good for athletes.

I bought WTR mainly because it gapped down after they announced an acquisition of a natural gas company, and I'm expecting it to recover in a long term
I also like the fact that water utilities are vital for the continued functioning of society, as well as the fact that water is becoming increasingly scarce and the US' water infrastructure is crumbling. I viewed this as a good opportunity to get into water, and WTR as a good choice.
WTR is a water utility dividend aristocrat that gapped down because they bought a natural gas company and investors don't like change
They're very solid fundamentally, and insiders have been buying this dip

VTGN is making a drug called AV-101 to treat depression and neuropathic pain
AV-101 acts on the same neurological pathway in the same way as ketamine (they're both NMDA antagonists), and there's significant scientific literature, as well as increasing use in clinical settings, supporting the efficacy of ketamine in treating both of those things
The advantages AV-101 has over ketamine is that it's orally bioavailable (you can take it as pills instead of having to inject it), which makes it a lot more likely for doctors to prescribe it, and it has fewer long-term side effects and safety concerns than ketamine
Its performance in clinical trials and the fact that it's been fast tracked by the FDA twice indicate that it's a promising drug that can potentially solve the problems of a drug that's been proven to be very effective but has several disadvantages hindering its adoption as a more widespread means of treatment

In terms of technicals, it ran up to $2 after news of its latest fast track designation was released, and then slowly dipped for the next few weeks
It bounced very nicely today, going up 9.5% and closing above the 50 day moving average

It's a small-cap biotech stock, so it's naturally very volatile and will dip and rise wildly on relatively low volume, in addition to being vulnerable to short term manipulation
Ultimately, the winning strategy is to be patient and hold as long as the fundamentals are there

biopharma certainly does have the volatility for solid gains, but I didn't have the industry knowledge to do well at that over tech. Too much of it simply flops that it wasn't a game that I could play. You might like LABU as well.
I used to have almost exclusively SOXL, SPXL, AMD, NVDA, TECL -- up until summer or fall of 2017, then I had a real job and enough cash in there to diversify some more.
Tech stuff was also nice because it was more established -- it'd have red days, but none of my stocks would halve overnight like LCI

I've done plenty of DD on stocks in here before i had a trip.. always would go unnoticed and stocks would most of the time do good.. can't tell you how many times i posted DD in here on stocks they did good but yet they went unnoticed.. as soon as i put a trip on i've just been met with morons screeching.. I stopped posting most DD because there are so many fucking retards in here that let emotions blind them to logic. Take LCI for example.. it dropped because of a lost contract? but yet those people that sold probably didn't even do any DD on LCI.. LCI has already been replacing the lost revenue even before contract ended.. The contract ending has been getting priced in all year.. that drop was fabricated.. share structure never changed.. if anything it got tighter.. but yet people sell because they didn't actually do any DD they didn't read up on how LCI is cutting cost and launching new drugs as well as signing more distribution agreements.. they didn't listen to the CC they didn't read the Q they just assumed that thats that.

So if you think people here don't do DD it's probably because they just don't post it anymore because 90% of the time it just gets ignored.

What if I owned 51% of Venezuela's currency? Sure, I'd still be pretty rich, but if I was in that situation, I'd actually want to swap it out for something else like US treasuries or even US dollars, at minimum.

BTC used to be used to buy drugs on silk road, but now, it's used primarily as a piss poor store of value.
Consumers would much rather buy things with US dollars than BTC. It's just more convenient. BTC is losing ground as a viable replacement currency to the US dollar.

Market liquidity is a substantial issue at that scale. That's why Warren Buffett doesn't buy up his entire stake in a company in one day.

Warren Buffett has actually done what I described multiple times.
On one occasion, he took a company called Kraft private, as well as another company called Heinz.
After merging them together privately, he sold his stake back off his majority stake at a higher price in a new IPO of Kraft-Heinz.
Anybody could do that if they had enough money to buy the shares.

Yeah, I missed his post about VTGN on Friday and I'm honestly not going to invest in VTGN because biopharma is too high risk for me.

I didn't appreciate that people were saying his portfolio was shit because I suspected that he actually could back up his position (and I was right)

I definitely agree with you that people aren't very open-minded on hearing people out here.
I think this whole tripfag reputation game is shit because I've definitely done less DD than either of you or Pendulum, but somebody said that my portfolio was solid while others were calling Pendulum's garbage, which I think is bullshit.

And then, I don't think people take an interest in random people's calls. Partially, it could mainly be because they could be shills. I think that was the initial reaction to the DRUS guy. I think CERU is one that genuinely used to be shilled a lot.

>It's not that simple, yeah you own the largest stock ownership stake but the actual controlling power still lays with the board of directors/Ceo. Unless you manage to unseat them or get them to go along with you your still fucked.
That's a very solid point.
I think the scenario that you described is only for if you just have one of the largest stakes in the company, like say 5% of NWL which some hedge fund guy recently took control of -- not for when that stake is 51%.
I think the board of directors and chairman of the board rarely even have a 51% stake cumulatively.

IIRC if your stake actually is 51%, you don't actually have to try influencing the board at all.
I think it's just that this rarely happens, and people usually prefer relying on their ability to influence the board, rather than a "hostile takeover"

Depends on where you're at and what you want I suppose. If you want a review of basic math (e.g. everything before calculus) serge lang's basic math is a good choice. After that it depends on the direction you want to go. I suppose you'll get a better idea of what you want out of math once you start school. How to prove it, by I think velleman or something, is a good introduction to the language of pure math. Apostol or Spivak are the popular calculus texts. Principles of mathematical analysis by rudin is perhaps where math actually begins in undergraduate education.

And like gommie pointed out, careerwise, knowing R and basic statistics along with it is probably the highest value career-wise.

Ford maybe? I'm very skeptical about their decision to focus on pickup trucks. I realize those are their best sellers by far but still... long term, I dunno if big vehicles like that are enough to sustain a car company alone. Not if trends change and Ford gets left behind. Talking very long term here though. A decade+.

Right. I live amongst rednecks and niggers, the only rightful population of this great nation, and these people hold on to their pickups for a long time. While nuclear is a great source of power. It's only viable if the plant can run full open 24/7. However, because how the power grid works you need additional plants that can fire up for peak loads. Also all power plants generate power the same way, steam. So the efficiency is generally the same. Coal has higher power requirements due to pulverizers, but nuclear has more cooling required. Also, I don't think your including the mining aspect of it. Uranium mining is highly fossil fuel dependent.

yes, agree with you there>
>Also all power plants generate power the same way, steam. So the efficiency is generally the same.
thats how the turbine is moved to create electrical power, not how the heat is generated

due to either impurities, or air intake, fossil fuel has a variable combustion efficiency
this is literally what im going to college for

>Coal has higher power requirements due to pulverizers, but nuclear has more cooling required. Also, I don't think your including the mining aspect of it. Uranium mining is highly fossil fuel dependent.
yes it is, but uranium is a very common element
and at a certain cost, it can be "mined" from regular old ocean water

startup and cool down times are problems for nuclear, that could be solved by using massive batteries to store power from low demand times for high demand times, but that is assuming that battery technology exists that can be scaled up that high, which it really cant without a huge initial cost
