Hey /biz/ so i had a question about car insurance. I basically screwed myself and wanted to know what my options are since this is my first accident.
>driving to work on freeway and it just stopped raining
>slide out on offramp and hit curb
>airbag went off but other than that car looks fine
>steering wheel wont move so i have to get towed
>call 911 and insurance
>full coverage so no tow and storage fees will be covered
>will talk to insurance rep monday and figure out repairs etc.
>realize i was a little happy merchant when selecting deductible and maxed it out to $2500 to save some shekels
>actually considering becoming an hero

so what are my options? I feel like the repairs are going to come out to less than $2500 and idk what happens in that case? can i make payments with the shop and cancel insurance claim? if it wasnt already obvious im pretty desperate for some advice /biz/

just......... relax dude. it's like 2500. no big deal.

all youre on the hook for now is towing costs and maybe storage fees. ~500 at max.

talk with the people. if you need the car, have insurance pay for it. set up a payment plan. don't get it fixed at the shop unless you know them. call family and get someone affordable.

if you dont need the car, and the repairs arent wortrh it, just scrap the thing.

Oh fine.

>can I make payments on a deductible
No. You pay the deducible or they don't pay to fix your car and you're on your own. It's that simple.

>GAP with credit union
GAP: GAP insurance is the difference between the actual cash value of a vehicle and the balance still owed on the financing (car loan, lease, etc.).

It's unlikely the insurance company is going to total out your car. So, no, that does not apply at all and has nothing to do with deductibles.

>Have to pay deductible
You don't _have_ to pay anything. You pay it or they don't fix your car. That's all. You don't owe them anything and they don't owe you anything.

>Pick up check from insurance company
Doesn't work that way. It works in this order:

-Accident
-Claim (by you in this case)
-Deductible (paid by you)
-Car fixed
-Insurance handles bill
-You go pickup your car

In this case you're going to end up with your car sitting in your driveway with a deployed airbag.

Why you would opt for comprehensive coverage and then decide on a $2500 deducible is beyond me. That's what you get for not thinking. But anyhow, there you go. Good luck.

I think your insurance rate will go up since you filed a claim even if the total cost ends up below 2500...someone correct me if im wrong

i dont have $500 either id have to borrow from someone and i cant get a loan anywhere and my credit card is maxed out. i guess ill find out if my insurance will let me make pyments for my deductible. i do need the car

>>1184733
would they at least cover the towing and storage fees?
my car is worth around 8k i still own 6k on it. when i got it in 2013 it was 11k
is my insurance cost still affected since i made a claim but i pay for the repairs myself?
yeah i realized the $2500 deductible was not smart at all just to save on my monthly payment

thank you for the advice

>credit cards maxed out

So get a new one with a $2500 limit and use it to pay the deductible, then pay it off over time.

How fucking hard was that?

i had to get full coverage since its financed. i just checked and im only saving $40 a month from having my deductible that high instead of just keeping it at $500

you are obviously very young and very leveraged to the point that a little curb has rattled your world...what would have happened if it was a major collision? Dont you have any relatives to help you out?

im 21
its not the accident that rattled me its my insurance. i wish my front axle was fine because id be fine driving around with my side airbag hanging down
what rattled me is what im going to do for transportation and how im going to pay to get it fixed or pay my insurance deductible

also my mom cant help me out. i live with my dad and step mom and my dad is a real happy merchant. makes me pay rent even though he doesnt need the money and will hound me if i forget even one day. he offered to pay my phone bill as my christmas present and will say i owe him for my phone bill from january but i remind him that was my christmas present. i pay for everything on my own. only reason i dont move out is i cant afford any higher rent. i asked him for a loan to help me pay my deductible and he said he'll think about it which surprised me

>would they at least cover the towing and storage fees?
Towing: If you have roadside, probably.
Storage: Unlikely. Always have your car towed home to your own house after an accident. Even if it's totaled. Better to figure out what you're going to do from that point free of charge vs $20/day.

>my car is worth around 8k i still own 6k on it. when i got it in 2013 it was 11k
How much it's worth isn't relevant to your current situation. You still owe the payments, wrecked or not, if that's what you're getting it.

>is my insurance cost still affected since i made a claim but i pay for the repairs myself?

I believe it only counts if they actually pay a claim. You filing one and backing out because of the deducible technically isn't a claim in the sense that it doesn't cost them anything. Try your insurance agent with that one though I'm not sure.

..

It's not the end of the world man. You've got to survive this to get to the fun stuff like divorce, foreclosure, child support and bankruptcy.
