Why the FUCK does 4chan push this meme so hard? IRL the difference in wealth is night and day, and the statistics back it up. I seriously don't get where our comes from or how people can just look at this and ignore it.

So why does 4chan constantly say it's a waste of money?

Average college debt is 37k. According to ops pic it pays off in 1-2 years lol.

Including loss of earnings you break even in 5-6 years, then have roughly double earnings the rest of your life

This is probably an overestimate as the decent no college jobs will require some sort of training

Well said. Lets not forget the fact that median earnings dont mean shit. If you are better than 90% of your peers than you blow these charts out of the water.

Wagecucking in Amazon Warehouse or driving a semi-truck arent going to pay more than a top tier corporate wagecuck in finance/tech.

Lets also not forget the fact that nobody will respect you as a business owner without a degree from a top school or experience from a top company (which you need a degree to get). Try getting MIT engineers working for you as a middle school graduate and let me know how it goes.

The doctor doesnt turn into an immobile potato at age 45-50 from being hunched over 12 hours a day, and wont have to pay hundreds of thousands of medical bills as a result.

For several reasons.

1st: USA
Many posters from the US get into crippling deby, because they are a "free country". Some of them seem to like getting robbed over their feelings.

2nd: stuck entry level
Most people will enter the job market with a wage, which is nominally about the same as 20-30 years ago. It gets better over the years, but it feels like betrayal, if you know what older collegues or your parents get for sometimes even the same job.

3rd: degree
Yes, also with a theatre science phd you are less likely to be unemployed. But you are paid shit and it is not easy to find.

4th: cope
I dont wish something bad for people, but this is a simple fact. Many need to cope with the fact, that they are not able (for whatever reasons) to attent university. Which is why I dont look down on people pushing the meme on 4chan, only in RL.

You have no social mobility without college. You can try to be your own boss but you don't know the first thing about owning a business or making the right business decisions (which GE's can generally help with if you aren't retarded and picked the easiest ones to dodge real work).
If the world decides to pay plumbers less for whatever market reason, or if your job gets automated, you're literally worthless. Congrats, I bet you root from some blueblood college football team on saturdays because you were too dumb to get into a school represented in the SEC

Two factors are problematic.

First, not all college educations are created equal. A degree in Gender Studies, Dance, Feminist Theory, or something equally and weirdly liberal and useless aren't likely to get you far.

Second, the pool of people who get a college degree are skewed a bit in favor of people who start off with higher intellect, better socioeconomic background, greater tendency toward achievement-oriented behaviors and fewer juvenile delinquency or teen pregnancy issues. In other words, the correlation of education and earnings wouldn't be nearly so pronounced if a few confounding variables were accounted for...though I don't doubt it would definitely still exist.

Also I grew up lower class and knew a lot manual workers. Your body will go to shit early which is probably why it pays more than most the not college jobs.

The thing is that most people who go to college had the choice, most people who didn't either dropped out, did shit in hs or (sadly very common in the uk) got taught a load of memes about it if lower class so don't go even if capable.

I didn't really want to go despite exceptional grades, but all the alternatives paid crap and ruined your body. Plumbing for reference in the UK pays slightly under the average wage despite health issues and being hard work

Its partly the principle and partly having half a sack.

College is worthless probably through masters degree, literally all of that information is available elsewhere.

Rather than going deeply into debt for thieving universities, you use your half a sack to actually learn something useful and use it in real life to make money.

Literally any mother fucker can go self taught web developer in less than 2 yrs, (or 2 months if you have a full sack) and blow away all of those avg college degree numbers.

That is why.

It heavily depends on the country you live in.

In Germany, it is considered extremely high debt to have, if it crosses 10k. I had 17k (lower state gibs) and was able to repay it in about one year.

Plus you could be saving and investing early. My post above assumes that the tradesman makes smart moves like buying an investment property, or putting all his extra income into an index fund.

Just do the simple math. At 18 a guy could start at $15/hr and be at $45/hr by 24.

Assuming he lives frugally and invests well he'll be millionaire by 40. Like I said above the medical doctor has just finished paying his loans by 40 and can finally start enjoying that $250k to $350k a year.

Also in trades there's a ton of opportunities to get paid in cash.

But hey go for your "passion"

The number of degrees have gone up while the quality of the work force hasn't. A lot of worthless meme degrees like history, X studies, arts, and general kids who had no direction and idea of what they were doing in college and simply did cause their guidance councilors told them to. So now there is a lot of false signals out there bitching how nobody wants to hire someone with a communications degree and instead of blaming themselves they blame college as a whole. Useful applied degrees will always be useful its just the whole "get any degree it doesn't matter what" meme doesn't apply anymore.
