if you are being matched it is.
>make 100k a year
>company matches 5%
>put 5k into 401k which company matches so its 10k
>its invested in stocks with an average growth of 7% per year
>end up with 10.7k after a year which you can take a 25% loan with low interest rate (that goes back into your account) so could take a loan on your own money for 2.7k if needed
or
>take original 5k gross income
>get taxed 25%
>left with 3.75k

so if i you are looking at NEEDING money, its a 2.7k (low interest you pay yourself) vs 3.75k. from an investment point you would have 10.7k locked until retirement vs 3.75k free to invest in anything

its hard to say. i think most of us here are hoping to not wait until we are 68 to "hit it big". the question is can you make an investment that immediatly tripples in value and then holds a steady increase for 30 years which most 401k's do.

Kinda true. I live and work in Silicon Valley. My salary excluding stock is around 160K/year. If you work at a big tech company like Google you are fine due to stock options, however otherwise you are still hard-pressed to be able to afford a house which (in my area) start at 1.1M for a 700 sqft 2bed 1 bath. Other costs of living are easily affordable. Housing market is starting to cool due to Chinese tariffs, rising interest rates, etc, so hopefully in a couple years houses will be more affordable.

$190k in crypto. I'm all in.

My 401k has like $28k in it but I stopped contributing so I could buy more link.

$20-30k in personal loans that I had used to buy crypto

$7k I owe in taxes for 2017 "gains". I guess I'm lucky I'm not that guy who owes $400k.

$12k in credit card debt because I couldn't buy link as fast as I wanted, so I lived off credit while using my income to buy link.

$30k loan I owe to my own 401k, that I used to buy JNT at $0.62.

I think uncle Sam is suing me for $40k since I am not sure TurboTax or Morgan Stanley calculated my basis correctly for the stock my company paid me in 2016.

Have a job that pays $220-$260k/yr but about $100k of that is in FANG company stock. If we have a stock market crash, I should see a pretty big pay cut.

Fuck man.

I could have been a 450k link marine but instead I became a 450k JNT marine. I am a fucking idiot. At least I got some link. Thanks to debt and ignoring the IRS, I was still able to get enough link to make it even though I'm a brainlet.

Looks to me like you're in a pretty good position. I was in the army at 21 - earning fuck all and blowing it on piss and women. If you're a bar manager, you can obviously relate to people. Get the easiest degree you can and get into pharma sales or the like! Don't beat yourself up and enjoy your youth. It is the most precious thing.

Alternatively, bring on the next bullrun and whenever 80% of your portfolio equals a house you'd be happy in, and taxes. Sell the 80% and keep banging molls from the bar. Good luck ANon

Why not liquidate your savings and pay off your student debt? Unless your intrest on your savings is higher than your loans, but still it would be best to get rid of it quick
